Problems with DPD. is it possible to change delivery

I sold an item which I thought had been listed as collection only as it was big and heavy and low value.  But somehow eBay had chosen delivery options for me.  So buyer paid for postage and when I tried to download postage label was told it was delivery via DPD and they would arrange collection the following day.  First they emailed to say they would come at any point during the day, which is really inconvenient.  Then Tuesday morning around 10am emailed to say they would be there between 4 and 5.  Which was a relief as not trapped at home all day.  But no one came, I called their phone line twice in the evening and the automated system said the driver was delayed but would be there shortly.  But I went to bed at 11pm and no one had come.  I emailed to ask when I could expect collection but got an email saying they will get back to me in 24hours.  This is incredibly inconvenient, I cannot spend my life at home hoping someone might come to collect a parcel.  Is there any way to cancel this and change couriers at this point?

And is it the buyer who gets to choose who the courier is?

I just listed another item and did sort out delivery.  It showed Royal Mail, evri and DPD as choices but said I had to choose DPD but could choose whether or not to offer the others.  If so the buyer might then ask for DPD and I cannot spend my life waiting to see if they might come.  Is there any way to get around this as I don’t want to use DPD ever again.

As a private seller I am not sure how you have DPD in your postage options they don't exist per se in Simple Delivery. The choices are Royal Mail, Evri and DHL. So you emailing DPD when it may well be a DHL parcel may be why they told you they would get back to you in 24 hours.

Problems with DPD. is it possible to change delivery

Yes sorry I meant dhl, this is their response “

Case number: 12686698

Thank you for contacting DHL eCommerce UK Customer Services.

We have received your query and aim to respond to you within 1 working day, between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays)

so any advice on how to avoid them now and in the future.  Waiting around for them to turn up or not is not how I want to live my life.

And also as the courier failed to collect yesterday you would have thought they might have arranged collection today and let me know about this but I have heard nothing.
