Hi, I just had a new Ebay user buy an item from me that would need to be posted overseas using Ebay's international services. The item was paid for right away, however I am suspicious that it may be a scam purchase because the user has 0 rating and registered on Ebay earlier today. Furthermore, the item is a used drill set that is not worth sending overseas (postage is more expensive than the item), and also I am not sure how well it would even work in other countries' domestic AC wiring.
Could someone clarify whether Ebay has ways to protect sellers in such situations. The last thing I want is loss of shipping costs, loss of item, and hassle.

It would be an unlikely scam target but you could explain to the buyer the item probably won't work outside the UK. You can issue a cancellation via the dropdown menu for the item on your orders page. If the buyer doesn't want to cancel or doesn't reply use the reason "Something wrong with buyer's address", that's the nearest we have to this sort of situation. Issue a refund in the process.

Thanks. I may be overthinking it. In case the situation goes wrong from my side, does Ebay offer any seller protection?

They do but for instance if a buyer opens a "not as described" return ebay expect the seller to refund and pay the cost of return.
