There are a several possible reasons why it might seem like you're paying more than the price for items.

There's eBay's buyer protection fee when buying from private sellers; eBay is now required to collect VAT on some purchases for HMRC; if items are from abroad there may be import duties to pay, and a currency conversion charge by your payment provider.

If you want to ley us have more information someone here will probably be able to suggest the reason.
