PayPal payment on hold

I purchased an item on eBay and paid by my PayPal account but the transaction in PayPal has not been completed and the following message is displayed:

This is a temporary authorisation to make sure your funding source will cover the payment. Your funding source will be charged when EBAY COMMERCE UK LTD completes your order.

I have messaged the Seller and they say they can see the item as Sold but have not received payment and have now gone quiet and do not respond to my messages.

I can't Cancel the payment in PayPal as it only a "temporary authorisation" and my account has not been debited. I use PayPal on a frequent basis and have never had an issue.

Can anyone suggest a reason for this and what I should do?

Contact PayPal as it it they who are instructing you of some issue with your PayPal account.

Did   that and PayPal say it is the case that eBay are not processing the order to the Seller and handling the payment.   As PayPal state in the payment authorisation email:

"You’ll see this purchase as pending in your payment status until EBAY COMMERCE UK LTD processes it."

I have emailed eBay customer support with the details and asked them to process the payment. I use PayPal on a regular basis and have never seen this issue with other suppliers.
