Across the pond you may not be aware that in the UK we do not have an official photo ID system (like an SS card/drivers licence that you guys have). Our Gov screwed it all up when trying to force us to accept an ID card (which secretly coded our personal info containing 145 items of our personal data on the Card). Naturally when our Privacy watchdogs found out about this disgraceful and unlawful invasion of our right there was a nationwide uproar and the whole scheme was quickly dropped.
Ive been with Ebay as a small private seller for 10+years with 100% FB and over 2000 sales. I have never been delinquent in any form and any minor mistakes I have quickly rectified.
So now EBAY is demanding that I upload a personal Photo ID (Passport or Driver license) as well as a more detailed completion of personal data (ie full DOB).
This is a wholly unacceptable security risk in 2025 - I hope I do not ned to explain why.
Dont give me all the plausible promises - would Ebay offer an insurance backed guarantee of say $1 million compensation if my data gets compromised in Ebay possession - there are bad actors everywhere - even your own Federal Reserve has been breeched recently.
Net result, I have deleted all my listings from now on and will no longer sell of Ebay. You are trying to bully me by withholding funds due for payment to me unless I fully comply with your new data requirements - this is unlawful and will no doubt be tested soon in courts. Worse still and even more outrageous is that I had to cancel some recent orders with apologies and explanations to buyers. You system refused to cancel my commitments and refund my buyers from the more than ample funds you are withholding.
2025 is going to be a bad year for Ebay as small sellers become aware of your aggressive attitude towards us. You must be aware of the huge tide of complaints smaller sellers have made over many years which Ebay has consistently chosen to ignore. It was particularly bad when Ebay chose to block sales payments to a Paypal Account. Instead you instigated your own system which only accepted a direct bank transfer and also made a delay of 7 days before funds were credited.
The hypocrisy here is that you are still more than happy to accept Paypal payment made by buyers
This latest desperate attempt to lure small sellers back on line will surely fail as the millions of us who have left often used to spin off to become buyer footfall. Too late as I for one do a lot of my buying now via Ali Express
