Nat ins no

I'm confused as to why eBay is asking fir Nat ins no. I clicked on ebay link to hmrc to see what the requirements were. I completed a small questionnaire and the outcome was because I was selling personal unwanted items and have not reached £6000. I do not need to tell hmrc my personal earnings.  So am confused why ebay need my details as I am nowhere near this amount. Any advice welcome as ebay has stopped my payouts until I give them my Nat ins no. There are so many scams going round and I want to be really sure

Never had a siggy anyway!

This is a legitimate request from Ebay and not a scam.

HMRC have instructed Ebay to collect this piece of information from any seller who reaches a certain threshold - either 30 items sold or items to the value of £1740 sold.

They will pass your information to HMRC although, as long as you are selling your own possessions and not making or buying items to sell, you are unlikely to have to pay any tax.

Read the information in the link below.
