Making an offer v submitting a bid

Seen an item I would like, make three offers, all declined.

Not allowed to any more bids.

I can submit a bid - presumably that can be below the price on ebay?

As you can gather haven't done this before - and like us all don't want to 'over pay' for an item.

Thank you

If you mean can your bid be lower than a ' Buy it Now' price on the item, yes it can.

You cannot pay ' too much',  you just place the amount you wish to pay in your bid,  if it's above the starting bid price, it will  be one increment higher and only show when matched or surpassed by other bidders.  Once a bid is placed the Buy it Now price disappears, the seller cannot accept any offers,  and the sale runs on in auction style only.

Be  aware , most bids do come in the last minutes even seconds of an auction, worth watching the auction right to that end !

So I can bid lower than the auction price?
It would be just logged at that, and others can see that bid, and then bid higher, visible to all?
Taking into account what you said people will wait for the last few seconds.

You can't bid lower than auction start price.

You can make a max bid, only you will see it.

Unless someone else bids, You will win at start price.

If it is an auction, you cannot bid lower than the start price.

If you tried it would be rejected.

You cannot pay more than your bid, except that postage would probably be extra unless freepost used.
