Item being collected should be paid in advance?

Sold an expensive item that's collection only a few days ago, the auction winner hasn't paid ebay for the item yet but is wanting to come in a couple of days to collect. I've informed the buyer that I require the collection code in order to release the item. I suspect they intend to come to collect and pay through ebay at the time of collection, is this ok? the payment will show as pending as opposed to complete in my ebay.

Previously in this scenario the buyer has paid ebay promptly, that payment went to pending, then to complete the next day, then a few days later they collected the item and gave the code.

I suppose the bottom line is; If the buyer gives me the collection code, is it ok to release the item whilst the payment is pending in ebay, or should I insist that they pay a day or so in advance so that the payment has a status of complete?

As long as you get the collection code before you hand over the item you will get the payment even if it's pending at the time.    However, ebay block messages containing addresses and phone number prior to online payment so the buyer will probably have to pay before they come anyway.
