International customers unable to purchase.

I've recently had 2 customers unable to purchase the same item. One from the USA & one from Sweden. I've previously sold to both countries before.

They both receive this message.

“We are sorry, but the item you selected may not be purchased due to seller shipping restrictions or due to country-specific import/export or other relevant restrictions {e271307-1250673x}.”

As far as I can tell, there are no selling restrictions on my account for those countries, and the item (small antique scales) shouldn't have any import/export issues.

I did ask Customer Services, they suggested the customers were likely logged into eBay.co.uk not eBay.com, but both assured me they were logged in to .com .

Any suggestions, please?

Swedens a bit of an odd one though go to your account settings (top left under your name)

Postage Preferences

Also Global Shipping Programme - Enrolled?

Exclude postage locations - See if Any Europe (drop down Sweden) are ticked

Re: International customers unable to purchase.

Thanks for the reply, yorkshire*flower. I hadn't realised eBay had closed down the US for shipments, if that's still in place, hopefully it'll not last much longer!

Yes, I'm enrolled in the GSP, and I'd gone through my account setting to see if there were any restrictions for posting to Sweden and the US but couldn't find anything.

It's quite concerning, because unless a customer contacts me to let me know there's an issue, I'm blissfully unaware if anyone's having a problem making a purchase.

I contacted customer support with the Sweden case and they replicated the sale without any issue, so maybe that was the customer's fault, and perhaps the US instance was eBay's restrictions. Fingers crossed it doesn't reoccur.

If its the guinea coin scales, as you say in your description its made of mahogany - and i suspect that is what the issue will be...

Re: International customers unable to purchase.

While global may be suspended, there is no reason why you cannot sell overseas.

With global all costs are paid up front, so when delivered the buyer has nothing else to pay. With uncertainty over tariffs, GSP cannot know for certain what may be payable.

Dealing direct any duty would be the responsibility of buyer on delivery.

As far as Sweden is concerned, I can see no mention of Global on listings, and there is no postage quoted. Without postage buyer could not pay so they cannot buy.

Re: International customers unable to purchase.

Thanks John, I'm a bit confused because all of my listings are listed with GSP, and all are listed with Simple Delivery too, so I believe postage costs are added when the customer selects which service they wish to use.

Re: International customers unable to purchase.

Update, the USA customer was able to purchase after making an offer. I suspect they'd been logged into eBay.co.uk and eventually logged into eBay.com to make the purchase. So, so long as the package gets through, all should be well.

Re: International customers unable to purchase.

Thanks Tommy. I hadn't realised there were any restrictions on mahogany items. The scales were documented to have been made by the manufacturer in the late 18thC, so CITES shouldn't be an issue hopefully.

The news is the customer was finally able to make the purchase, and the item is now on its way to them, so fingers crossed.
