I never get a 2FA code sent to my registered email address

When signing in to ebay I have the option of getting a 2FA code by email (and the correct email address is shown) , by SMS (and the correct phone number is shown), or through the ebay app.

 

I always am sitting at my PC when using ebay and, contrary to what ebay assumes, I don't go around with my mobile phone glued to my hip as I only use it occasionally to call my family, never for banking or buying things. Consequently I'd like to choose to have the 2FA code sent by email.

 

However, I have never received such a code to my email address. I've checked the address is correct and looked in the spam folder, the deleted folder and checked the email rules. I get email notifications from ebay if I get seller messages or when I buy something and it is due to be delivered and the address used is  the same address as is currently registered and which has been the same for at least ten years.

 

The only way I can get a 2FA code is by SMS which means I have to leave my desk and search around the building for my phone. 

 

Has anyone any idea why getting a code via email never works?
