Did I get scammed?

Hi everyone,

Last week on Friday 30th May 2025 I ordered an Apple iPod Touch from an eBay seller.

On Monday 2nd June I got a notification saying it had been dispatched and because I paid 4.99 extra for Royal Mail tracked 24; I thought I would get my item by Tuesday or Wednesday. When I got the tracking number, Royal Mail's app stated that it is an untracked service and to enjoy full tracking on your items, please choose either Tracked 24, 48 or Special Delivery.

I contacted the seller and he/she apologized for this and refunded me 4.99 that I paid for postage. It is now Thursday 6th May 2025 and I still have not received my item. I know that when I've ordered other stuff from eBay from different sellers, it comes by Wednesday or Thursday at the latest.

Royal Mail's app keeps saying "An update will only be provided when we attempt to deliver your item."

I'm starting to think that the seller has not sent my item and the estimated delivery date according to eBay is Wednesday 4th June - Wednesday 11th June. However, this is starting to look suspicious and I read some of the sellers reviews yesterday.  3 of them stated that the seller gave a fake tracking number and never sent the parcels to Royal Mail.

Can anyone please help me?

You will just have to be patient.

I think the fact that the seller refunded you the extra postage you paid shows they are not a scammer.

As the EDD is 4-11 June, the seller probably had until 23.59 on June 3rd to send the item and, if they bought postage through Ebay, as soon as they access the label it (unhelpfully) marks the item as dispatched.

Keep an eye on the tracking and, as advised, if it hasn't arrived by 12th, you can open a case and get a refund.

Private sellers don't get paid until after items are delivered, so the seller may not even have your money yet.

Thankyou for replying. I got the refund in my bank this morning for the postage and hopefully the iPod I purchased will arrive by the estimated date. But the main reason why I think I got scammed, is because some of the seller's feedback state that they never shipped the item and never had it in stock.
