DHL collected wrong item

I sold a guitar through ebay and the "simple delivery" service chose DHL. I labelled my box for them and contacted them on the phone to state I wouldn't be present but I explained where it was and that it was labelled. I then get a message hours later that it's been collected.

Only for the recipient to now message and state they have received something completely different. It would appear DHL have labelled some random box. Where do I stand here?

Unfortunately the buyer will need to open a case for item not as described and those are not covered by simple delivery seller protection.  This means you are responsible for the refund.

Also unfortunately, DHL probably won't deal with you for a complaint because ebay is their client not you.

It's one of the issues with simple delivery but usually with evri, not DHL.

You could try talking it over with ebay CS.

If so, presumably you still have the guitar? So even if you have to refund the buyer, you've not lost anything except the delivery cost, and can sell it again. If you pay for the return, you might even get the "random item" that the buyer received. (Bad luck for the buyer and seller of the random item!)

Or did you mean that DHL delivered the wrong item?

DHL collected wrong item

DHL has come to my apartment foyer and supposedly picked up a random box, labelled it and sent it off. However my box has also gone so it's likely they've labelled the wrong thing. I have no idea what to do.

papso22 has already told you what you will have to do.

Your buyer will presumably now open a case under eBay's money back guarantee, as the item they received is not the one they ordered. If so, as "not as described" caims are the liability of the seller, you will have to refund the buyer in full.

You could, if you wish, send the buyer a prepaid return label to return the itm they received. If thee's any paprwork with it this migh help you to discover who sent it, as their buyer presumable received your guitar!

But the bottom line is that you as the seller are responsible for refunding for "not as described" items. You have to take some resonsibilty for leaving the parcel in an insecure  public space for DHL to collect.
