I've just sold an item and the buyer has paid. On getting the address label it turns out the buyer is only a few minutes down the road from where I live. I have been in contact with the buyer and we've both agreed it's a lot easier and quicker just to meet up and I'll deliver the goods in person. How can I get eBay to acknowledge this change to the original delivery option and register that the goods have indeed passed from seller to buyer?
Thanks to anyone who has been in a similar situation and might be able to shed some light on what to do!

That's an angle I hadn't considered but could certainly be a further
complicating issue!! Think I'll try and persuade them to go with our
original plans as described in the listing!!

You'll have no proof that the buyer has their item.
Is it a high value one?
If so, cancel the order and then relist as collection in person then, when your buyer pays, they'll receive a code they can give you when you drop off their item, this proves that they have it.

Thank you ever so much for the reply!
The "lack of proof that the buyer has the item" was indeed my concern,
hence my inquiry as I can't see any way on the eBay system which allows for
such a change to be acknowledged! Infuriating given that we're actually
setting up a much simpler delivery system than the previously arranged one!!
"High value"?? I guess that's all relative but we're talking of just over
£100 so not just pocket money stuff!!
Any idea what would happen if we just went ahead with the face-to-face
delivery and ignored the postage label/tracking component of the eBay
system?

Well, your buyer would win an eBay or PayPal item not received claim, or could issue a not received chargeback via their card provider.
If you drop the item off yourself then you'll need to wait at least 14 days for eBay to release your payment to you.

I can see that it does open up a can of worms!! I'll contact the buyer and see if they're willing to go down the cancel-and-relist option or we just go with the original plan!!

Only problem from buyers angle is that money paid already while it will be refunded, depending on source can take some time. For example if paid by credit card can take up to 30 days, and he may not have funds to make a second payment.
