Hi. I sold my item with postage the only option. The buyer lives nearby so decided to collect. I said I would refund his postage in cash on collection as I couldn’t find a way to change it to collect once he had paid. Eventually we decided to cancel the order and relist it as a collect item for him to buy. This didn’t work, so he asked if he could just pay cash when he turned up to collect. As it was only an empty cardboard box, I thought this was a reasonable solution. I then tried to cancel the listing which also failed. So now my new non-existent box has been bought again. The new buyer tried to cancel the sale. I did not reply because I thought it was the original purchaser as a result the request to cancel was deemed to have been refused. So now I’ve got a couple of unresolved sales to resolve. They are resolved in reality but not from eBay’s perspective. Help!

I don't understand why the relist and the cancellation failed.
What is important is whether there is any money involved, i.e has the second buyer paid?
If not then you can just leave the sales to drop off eventually.

cash on collection is not allowed except for vehicles.

I think they were going to refund the postage in cash when the buyer collected the item they had already paid for.
