Buyer asking for extra information after purchase (not paid yet).

I've sold a selection of bits as a single lot. The buyer has not paid and is now asking to only take certain items (for the original price) and wants more photos of the items they want.

My take is that this is not on; the stuff was sold as a lot, for a single price; they should not be negotiating what they want at this point (regardless of what they have paid) and the only reason to ask for more photos is to decide whether they really do want the items.

They are also based in HK, though assure me that they will be shipping to a UK address (I used simple delivery and don't know if that automatically excludes international sales).

I can envisage this sale going badly already.

My query is; should I report them?

Thanks

They have not done anything to be reported for.

If you look at the Ebay 'report a buyer' link, there are not many reasons for reporting a buyer and they are quite specific.

I would send them one polite but clear message stating that you are happy to send the items they have purchased for the given price but are not prepared to provide any more photos.  You could say that you will cancel the sale if they can't agree to those conditions.

Put the ball in their court but make sure it's 'take it or leave it'.

Personally, I'd accommodate them and just remove the items they say that they don't want and send them photos of the ones they do.

Worse case scenario is that they'll ask to cancel.

As regards being in HK, if they add their UK shipping address at checkout before paying then that UK address will show as the delivery address on the order details.

as the have not paid, after 4 full days cancel with - buyer did not pay.

they get an unpaid strike and no feedback can be left.

also block them.

Thanks - the issue is that it was a 'job lot' and was done that way to be minimal hassle. It was therefore sold considerably cheaper than if I wanted to sell the bits separately/in smaller groups. Basically, they are wanting the most desirable stuff (for a bargain price), leaving the hard-to-shift stuff for me to try to move on later, which I don't want to do.

I understand that they are getting it shipped to the UK address and then on to China, hence wanting to reduce postage weight, but why did they wait until they had bought it to ask? Very frustrating.

Couldn't you put the bits they don't want in the charity box or bin them, you'll presumably be paid for the full lot so won't lose out?

You're absolutely right, the time to ask questions is before bidding, not after, but now that you're in this situation you can either cancel the order and relist (I do note that they were the only bidder though, which is what I'm basing my advice on) or go ahead with their request.

I imagine that this is the £94 job lt of toy soldiers?

The bottom line is that they've bought the whole lot. They can't cherry-pick now and only pay for the ones they want. If they just asking for unwanted items to be left out of the package that's fine, but make sure this is documented so that they can't claim later that the order is incomplete.

Remember that for seller protection you MUST dispatch only to the registered address provided by eBay. If they want to change this they can do so at checkout, before paying. It would be to your advantage to deliver to a UK address as if they use eBay's money back guarantee you would only have to send the prepaid label to their UK address.

By the way, someone else may be more knowledgeable about tax issues, but is it possible that because they're registered in HK eBay may add VAT, even if it's for UK delivery?

If this buyer looks like being more trouble than they're worth, take plpmr's advice, and cancel after 4 days if they haven't paid.

Thanks; it was the tobacciana lot, rather than the toys. I don't think they are going to pay, so I will hopefully be able to cancel the order in a couple of days and relist.

Yes, they were the only bidder, but am happy to relist. The stuff is all a bit niche and tricky to shift (my late husband collected lots of  stuff that I am now trying to move on). I don't think this is the sort of stuff a charity shop would want and certainly the bits the buyer is wanting to leave out are the least desirable bits - but still too good to bin. I just want it all to go so someone who appreciates it, with minimum hassle. Anyway, thanks for your reply - you are probably right that I should just go with what they are asking, but I will probably let me heart rule my head and relist it anyway!
