£1.00 taken after buying an item

Hi, I bought an item on ebay. The payment showed in my bank and on paypal. Then another payment of £1.00 came up at the same time in my bank, not showing on paypal.

Then I went back to ebay, to link my card/bank and another payment of £1.00 was in my bank with a code to input on ebay. So, 2 £1.00 payments showing. 

I called my bank who could not help.

Any ideas ? 

Tried calling ebay, but could not get a real person on the phone.

Others have had this happen it seems to be some form of temporary pre-authorization made if a card is used for the first time,  a change to address,  or a high priced item, or sometimes none of the above just a security measure!  

It is not as such charged by eBay and once the actual payment has been processed the £1 is refunded.

An odd one for sure!

It was not for a new card, change of address or high priced item.

There is no explanation. So perhaps as you say some random security measure !

My bank could see the £1.00 taken with the code (to link card/bank....not sure which it was tbh) and they could see that was already being returned, but could not see that for the mysterious £1.00.

It is just a worry, with scams etc.

The bank just said keep an eye on tge account :))
