I recently won an auction even though i was outbid, there was a bid retraction with just 11 seconds to go. this person had placed 5 previous bids on item the last one equalled mine and a minute later placed a higher bid with 2 minutes till the end and then the retraction.
With the bid retraction i ended up paying twice as much as i would've if this person had not bid , Suspiciously the seller had another item i was interested in finishing a little later and the same person had pushed the price up to equal the top bid but not going over i thought shill bidding by seller but on clicking on the name at the bid retraction they had only 4% bids with seller.
The worrying thing is this person has made 26 bid retractions in the last 30 days and 184 in the last 12 months why has ebay not put a stop to such activity
You cannot even report shill bidding according to ebay its sorted
"How do I report shill bidding?
If you think that another member is shill bidding, you don't need to report it to us. eBay has a number of systems in place to detect and monitor bidding patterns and practices. If we identify any malicious behaviour, we'll take steps to prevent it."
If you cannot trust the auction to br honest why bother i have been an ebayer well over 20 years and i am strongly thinking about calling it a day,
It is not allowed and ebay say they have the technology in place to pick up shill bidding
but it does happen I am sure. Another member was on here earilier this morning and had reported but ebay did nothing
It is best not to put in your highest bid until very near the end of the auction.
Not ideal but does not give them so much time to retract
