so heres my question

can a buyer pay via direct debit if so how long till the item shows as paid?

I think you are confused, Direct debit is when you authorise a company to take payment from your bank, e.g. council tax.

If you mean can buyers pay by bank transfer, if listed as an option, yes they can.

BUT, why would they, they only have MBG protection when paying through ebay checkout.

i think i need to clarify I'm not a buyer but a seller  sold an item  buyer yet to (according to eBay ) said they have

You can only pay via the payment methods shown on the seller's listing.

If you have a Paypal account and your seller accepts Paypal, you may be able to ask for Paypal credit for an expensive item.
