Producing a VAT invoice on ebay

Hi 

I asked a few days ago if anyone could please let me know how to produce an invoice after a sale showing the VAT reg no. and the breakdown of the VAT.  Also the suggested invoice number.  Ebay told me today that they don't have this facility as it's too expensive for them which seems strange and have advised me to look for my own software.  Has anyone any suggestions please as other sellers must be providing their customers with VAT invoices and I would have thought it was possible to auto generate this from eBay.  Any suggestions gratefully received.  Many thanks
