I’ve just been outbid on an item. No biggie usually but my highest bid was 16.55 and the winning bid was 16.59. How us this even possible? Do certain accounts get preferential bidding treatment? I’m losing faith in eBay.

the winning bid was placed as a maximum bid before you placed your bid,
but only the next increment was showing on the listing
when you placed your bid the maximum bid already placed was brought into play
and because it was higher than your bid it won
