Lost bike….

Hi im after some advice on where i stand with a recent sale. I had a bike listed with 2 postage options one without insurance and one with insurance. A guy messaged asking if i could drop the price a bit so i agreed to offer free postage which he accepted. Bike was picked up and went on its way. A few days later it still hadnt arrived i checked the tracking and it was at the main delivery depot where it stayed for a few days due to an admin error with the original collection. After almost a week of back and fore with the buyer and the delivery company it was finaly out for delivery today. I have checked the tracking which shows that it was delivered today at 1.26 and signed for by the customers surname. The buyer says that it hasnt arrived as he has been in all day. He said he has contacted the delivery company and the van was in his street at that time but nowhere near his house. I feel something fishy is going on with the delivery company. Where do i stand if the buyer puts in a claim against me. I have all the proof of bookings payment and tracking that shows its delivered. Sorry if its a bit long ☺️

1st off, tracking is for your benefit, buyers are covered by MBG.

Unless you can prove delivery, you have to refund buyer if they claim not received.

You should always add tracking to ebay when marking as posted,

if not done so, add tracking to case now, but may be too late.

What is stopping anyone claiming an item not received when infact they have had it delivered if thats the case?

The seller showing tracking with delivery.  Most buyers are honest.  It is up to the seller to use a suitable service.  Royal Mail 1st or 2nd to £20 - signed for to £50 and special Delivery over that.

EBay won't Refund the Buyer if you have Proof of Delivery - Confirmed Delivery to the Address on the Confirmation Email.

Where do i stand if the buyer puts in a claim against me.

If they open a case under eBay's money back guarantee eBay will support you provided the tracking record confirms successful delivery to their address.

I take it that you uploaded the tracking number when marking it as dispatched? If not, you MUST do so now, see: https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/selling/posting-items/tracking-items-youve-sold?id=4088

Never let buyers choose whether to pay for an insured or uninsured service. What's the point? If the item doesn't arrive, or is damaged on delivery, eBay will require you to refund them in full anyway. Postal insurance is for your benefit, not theirs.
