Item price changing at checkout?

Hi I am from uk and bought an item priced at 150 dollars plus 30 dollars postage. When I go to checkout the item price changes to 180 dollars and the postage changes to 36 dollars.

is this normal as I want to pay for the item but feel I'm being charged too much? Please help

it's VAT, you have to pay VAT when you import items into this country

Thanks for the reply i didn’t know it was added to the item price and the postage of 30 set by seller in states was added to the item price then the postage changed to 36 it was unclear was worried something had gone wrong
