Customs charges from Australia

Hi,

If I bought a watch at circa £850 from Australia does anyone know roughly how much the customs charges could be?

Kind Regards,

Stephen

One third of the cost including insurance and carriage is a good starting point.  Perhaps a bit less for a costly item.  VAT will be 20% [so about £180] Clearance fee of £10 and something for duty.

You really should have checked before you bought the item

It is not just the fact of having to pay the customs taxes but if you have to return it

You can check the charges on the Gov.uk site

The last time I checked the charges were

You need to check yourself for now

Goods Over £15 bought from outside the EU you pay VAT plus a fee to the delivery company  (RM is £8).  If over £135 you also pay Customs Duty.

As the importer of the goods you are responsible for paying the customs or taxes for your own country.

It is nothing to do with the seller.

When  you buy an item overseas then it says on the listing that you may occur other charges

If you do not pay then the item will go back to the seller and you lose your ebay money back guarantee so would be without the goods or the money.
