Buyer has queries a month after purchase

I sold an item on 17th April, sent and delivered safely, no problems there at all. I had a message two and half weeks later from the buyer stating not everything was there (my partners fault as it was their item/s being sold so they packaged it). No problem, we sent it in the post to them the next day hoping the issue was resolved.

Now another two weeks later, they message to say it hadn't been received. This is where it gets a little complicated - the address they gave was not in fact the buyers home address (same one the original item was sent to), but a local post office. We were not aware of this, as the name of the post office could quite easily have been a house name!

When the buyer reached out to say they had not got the parcel, I had told them it was sent to the same address used previously, and it had been over two weeks since being sent. The buyer then tells us that, that post office had not been accepting parcels for the last two weeks - same time frame we posted the missing part. I contacted my local post office where it was sent from to seek advice. So I passed on the information that any undelivered parcels would go to a local sorting office and he should contact his local sorting office.

A few days later, he says he contacted them but there was nothing there in his name. I just suggested he continually called back every day to check.

It's now been a month altogether, and he is now saying he is unhappy with the item as he thinks it is damaged. The item was not damaged in any way at the time of sale, and he has had a plentiful amount of time to let us know previously but has failed to do so. I am now concerned what the next, if any, steps would be to try and resolve this, as I would of course like to upkeep my selling reputation and ensure there's no further issues.

Buyer is now outside the 30 days allowed to open a Not As Described case, but if he paid by Paypal he could open a case with them.

Buyer should have opened a case in the first place then it would not be such a mess.  You had the address to which original item was sent so you should have sent the missing piece to the same address, but it would have been better for all to be returned to you and you refunded through the case.

Did you use tracking, that is the only way to prove delivery, but as it would be in two parts that would not be satisfactory. That is why buyer should have returned through a case in the first place.

If the item was bought on the 17th April then they are out of time for a dispute on ebay.

I take it you just sent the extra bit and they did not buy it seperately

If the item that has gone missing is not at the buyers Sorting. Delivery office then if you put a return address on it ( which you should always do) then it may come back to you

if there is information inside but you did not put an address on the outside then it will go to Belfast to be sorted and you may get it back. No information or address it will be disposed of in any way RM decide

They may still be able to open a not as described on paypal if they paid that way.
