If eBay can scan every message between its millions of members to detect attempted fee evasion, they could do the same to check listings in the motors section for the endless scams there. As you say, the wording is often so repetitious that intelligent scanning easily recognise them.

We so often hear from naive buyers who fall for these scams - in one morning alone three buyers each lost over £6,000 for non existent cars. In a TV programme about organised crime, a senior police officer reported that in London one criminal gang had registered "multiple hundreds" of fake accounts on eBay to place fraudulent listings for motor vehicles.

EBay's evident disinterest in this is a scandal. They don't even do the one thing which would cost them nothing: send a message to all winning bidders in the motors section, reminding them that there is no buyer protection for motor vehicles, and advising them to see and inspect the vehicle before paying.

The irony is that in the cases you refer to eBay will probably act quickly, not to protect the buyers but because the listings also appear designed to evade paying eBay's fees. EBay knows where its priorities lie!

There is a report this item on every listing

Ebay rely on members to report as they can not police the whole site themselves

They do remove these sellers but as fast as one is removed another pops up

Often on hacked accounts.

It is also up to buyers to beware and realise like you did that they are scammers.
