Last time I checked Australia were not in the EU Smiley Happy

• When you import items from outside the EU there is a very high probability that those goods will be subject to import charges

• These consist of VAT - Goods over £15

• Import Duty - Goods over £135

• Brokerage fee - Paid to the courier who pays the fees on your behalf (anywhere from £8- £20)

• These fees are nothing to do with the seller or eBay......they are levied on the buyer/importer by your government......

• Failure to pay these charges upon delivery invalidates the Money Back Guarantee......meaning the goods will be returned to the seller & you will lose them & be unable to claim from eBay or Paypal

• The exception to this is where the seller ships using eBay Global Shipping Programme

• In these cases the buyer pays these fees as a separate payment at the time of purchase

There are import duties on goods from all countries outside the EU if the value is above the threshold for VAT. There is also a charge from the courier or Royal Mail for collecting the tax.

If a seller on eBay uses the Global Shipping Programme then any extra fees are included in the postage you pay. If you buy from an international seller there is information about this on the listing in the top section where the postage is given. You will find a link to click on for more information.

It depends on the Value of your purchase. VAT is payable over £25 (I think) and Import Duty if over £135. Royal Mail or the Courier making the deliver collect any taxes payable and make a charge RM charge £8, Couriers up to double that.

You can use Google to check on Duty payable.
