I use a signature which reflects my faith.  It doesn't make me any better than the next man, but I do notice I appear to be the only person on the board who professes their faith and part of their testimony as a signature.  This board is made up of people of all faiths and religious convictions.

In short, is it indiscrete of me to use such a signature.  Fred.

You are entitled to put any signature you want Fred.

I don't have one at all but I suppose I could put one such as  'My hair is brown' or  'I take size 6 shoes'  but I don't suppose anybody else will be at all interested, so why tell them every time I post?  Woman Happy

I can say is that IF you had used that signature on the US boards some years ago, you'd have been slaughtered by other members.

I don't know what the situation is like know, but others have used religious sigs in one way or another on the UK boards in the past and they've had to remove them - but then they were used in a way which the member knew would cause offence or upset.  It was a deliberate online poke in the eye.

We seem to be a whole load better at accepting and discussing religious topics which I think is a huge step forward in that they don't descend into a massive free for all outpouring of rage on all sides and they are genuine discussions.

In the main, however, I also believe that there is a time and place for stating one's beliefs, politics, vital statistics etc and to constantly display it could (and I belive you have found) rebound on you.

Plus - well - it gets boring frankly.  Change it already!  Mine's due for a change and either it will go soon completely for a time or be replaced.

Like I said on the other thread, I don't care what you have as your signature..

Not bothered really. I have what I think is an appropriate sig for myself. 🙂

Have what you like as your sig, it's introducing religion in to unrelated threads that causes annoyance.

My sig is so you can make of it what you will. It could be alien related or contra religion.....

There again it might be a simple quote from Star-Trek.......

It's life Jim, but not as WE know it.
Live long and prosper.

It's actually a misquote, and I know - I watched the series.  Spock never actually uses those exact words.  He uses something very similar but not those actual words in one of the episodes - I think where there is some form of life in what looks like a rock, but I could be wrong.  My daughter can remember it so we're going to watch it now - you've whet my apitite!  Smiley LOL  Another misconception is where people assume Kirk says "Beam me up, Scotty."  He never said that in any episode.  What he usually says is:"Two to beam up."  It was good in it's time, but a bit naff before the end.    I'll get back to you on that one!

You're right, Spock doesn't say those exact words, my sig quote is from "Star Trekkin".

Spock actually said "It is not life as we know or understand it."

We are already aware it doesnt make you any better, and no one here thought it did, you asked do you ram it down peoples throats? (on rainys thread) you DO make sure everyone knows at every given opprotunity, rainys thread in point. Even when an answer doesnt require a religious slant, you give it one. Knowing rainy as i do, she will mull it over, rumble it around and make the best decisions she sees fit.

If it was a simple as "Love one another, as I have loved you." rainy wouldnt be having a dilemma. Real life is much more complex than that.

This board is made of many denominations, I have posted here for many many years, do you know what my faith is? I will hazzard as a guess at no, because like everyone else, i leave it at  the door of FHG.

I live in Scotland, i have lived under religious segregation since i was at school, I have seen first hand the damage it can do, which is why i found fhg refreshing. No one imposed their beliefs on anyone else.

Its nice you have found YOUR belief system, but you have to know it doesnt apply to everyone, and why we do all leave it behind, so many people, so many beliefs, ruffled feathers are inevitable when you do bring it into conversation on a regular basis and become so very defensive when someone doesnt agree with you

I think in a way it's better NOT to know a person's beliefs and dare I say it, the colour of their skin.  That way everyone judges the other person on what they say, not what we think they must mean because they are 'different' to me.

Religion and race cause more trouble throughout the world than anything else I can think of.

or if you live in Glasgow, football AND religion all in one go

when Celtic play at home, and so does Rangers

they stagger the kick off so the fans are not all in the city at the same time pre match or afterwards

you cannot wear "colours" in most of the pubs in town either, they have signs outside telling you, you wont be admitted if you are wearing them

Which just goes to prove, people are prejudiced  and think if you have a particular religion, skin colour or football shirt to me, we can't get on.

I have my own views on politics and religion and I always keep them to myself as I don't think FHG is a place for them to be aired.  None of my friends know my views and that's how I will keep it.

Too true.  I know a chappie and they are his two favourite topics of conversation.  I just ignore him and let him get on with it.  It surprises me he hasn't got the message yet.
