Remember this?

It's a year ago Thursday she had her op to have a new cruciate ligament in her knee.  She has to go to the vet's tomorrow, I think she's done the other one!!:_|

Looks like we'll both be on crutches at the same time.:O

Re: Remember this?

Stupid dog!!  Hubby put a wide board down the steps:_|.  Lottie wouldn't go on it so I lifted her on.  She jumped off the side.  I got her some little biscuits and I threw them on the board up the top, near the bottom, in the middle.  Lottie was going up and down the board getting the biscuits, happy as Larry.  I was at the top on the decking, she was near the top of the board.  I said 'Come on in then' and walked to the door.  She jumped off the board and then came up the steps and came in!

Re: Remember this?

You've got to laugh CG...she obviously has a mind of her own 😄

As long as she doesn't do harm to herself...what a wee minx 🙂

Re: Remember this?

Just an update on Lottie.

She's just been for a check up and all is well.  I can't believe it's less than two weeks since the op because she's sooooo much better this time than last.  She's walking on it now with hardly a limp!  According to her 'what to do, when' list, she's only just supposed to be allowed out of the confinement of one room, and is allowed a five minute supervised walk off lead in the garden twice a day.  She comes and goes as she pleases, has since day one!  I thought perhaps the ligament hadn't snapped, and a new one been made, I thought perhaps it was just torn and was repaired, but no, the vet said she had the same op as last time.  The only difference was that last time there was a lot of debris (crumbled bone) to be cleared away first, whereas this time it wasn't as bad.   She has another appointment for four weeks time and perhaps that will be it then.:-D

I wonder how Jack is getting on?

Re: Remember this?

Hi everyone. Sorry I haven't been around. Glad to hear Lottie's doing so well. 😄 Jack's also improving every day. Not using his back leg that much yet, but then again it was quite a trauma to the leg. Been back to the vets this morning and she's pleased with his progress. Have to take him back in a fortnight.

As well as the cruciate snapping, his tibia (where the joints meet) wasn't cup shaped to cradle the femur socket. It was straight across at a sharp angle, so when the rounded part of the socket touched the tibia, it just slid back and was causing him a lot of pain. The vet cut a V shape in the tibia which straightened the top of the bone and then put a plate in to hold it together.

Hope I explained that ok and you understand what was wrong. ?:|  Anyway, as I say he's on the mend but still no walks for at least another 3 weeks poor thing. 😞 It's so sad listening to him crying when my other dog goes out for a walk - I actually took him for a drive the other day so he wouldn't feel so bad! :^O Us and our dogs eh?

Re: Remember this?

I'm glad he's doing well medically roofie.  Is he still wearing the collar?  Lottie has never been out for a walk in her life, so she's not missing it.  It's been so easy this time, and to think, I was thinking of trying to hang on until after I'd had mine done because I didn't think I'd be able to look after her while she recovered.  I won't be able to bend down to her or lift her down the decking steps or anything.  My daughter said get her done then and she'd be a lot better by the time I go in.  And here she is, less than two weeks later and she needs no special treatment at all!:-D

Re: Remember this?

Oh that's great CG. Not wearing the collar - he ate it! I tried to put it on him after a particularly enthusiastic licking of his wound and he grabbed it out of it my hand and demolished it! :^O That told me eh? I needed to up his painkillers too for a while but he's back on the regular dose and seems quite happy.

Will keep you all updated, but if I'm not around when you go in for your op CG, all the very best. 😄

Re: Remember this?

I certainly hope not Maggie!  I weighed her just before her op so 2 weeks ago and she was about 1lb up on what she got down to.  I suppose with two weeks of inactivity she might have put another one back, but I hope that's all.  (As she's been sitting staring at me for an hour now, waiting for her 8pm Bonio!):|
