I will be fifty next year and am not very happy about it, it fact im a bit scared. The years have gone so fast and i just cannot believe it only seemed a blink of an eye when i could not wait to be 18!!!!!!.
Is anyone else a bit daunted or has been daunted about reaching a milestone age?
40 was not too bad, but i remember saying to my mum and dad "oh you have reached the half way mark"!!!!!!!, LOL,LOL,LOL,.
Tell me im not alone ha ha ha.

No reason why being older has to equal being frumpy and boring.
I often wonder if the next generation of elderly people will be sitting
around in trainers and jeans rather than the crimplene, twinsets
and granny shoes that a lot of them wear.
I can't imagine myself wearing anything different to what I like
wearing most now, casual stuff like hoodies, jeans and boots.
Hopefully I'll still be able to swim in the sea when I'm old too.
I've told this true story before but it's about being old and having
fun, so pardon me for telling it again. A couple of years ago we
were on holiday in Devon, enjoying swimming and surfing at
Westward Ho! A lady walked down the beach holding the arm of
an older lady who was walking with a stick. When, after about ten minutes,
they got to the water's edge, the older lady took off her top layer
revealing a swimsuit, swapped her stick for the bodyboard her
companion was carrying, and went into the sea, had about six
very successful rides on the waves, then went back again. It
was sheer joy to see her face! I don't reckon she was a day
under eighty, probably more, but that wasn't going to stop her
having fun!

Absolutely right, Fishy! I'm sure that when I'm old I'll be wearing my usual jeans and t shirts. But if like me you're also into vintage clothes, be careful not to overdo it, or people will think you haven't been shopping for 40 years!!

I'm 65 and spend my life in jeans, Tee shirts and crocs. Not a smart look but comfy! ![]()

Snap, CG! Except for the crocs - I'm more likely to wear Fitflops in summer and boots or clogs in winter. Ideal outfit for dogwalking and gardening. Not dull and can be stylish, all depends on your choice of jeans and t shirt!

WELL I DO NOT FEEL SO BAD NOW, I SHOULD NOT COMPLAIN I AM HEALTHY BUT FOR A FEW ACHES AND PAINS STARTING ( I THINK THATS WHY YOU GET WORRIED). MANY ARE NOT HEALTHY SO I SHOULD CELEBRATE WHICH I WILL. PEOPLE ALL SAY I LOOK MUCH YOUNGER AND I SHOULD BE GLAD ABOUT THAT. I STILL HAVE A REALLY YOUNG OUTLOOK AND HAVE A REALLY SILLY SIDE IN THE COMPANY OF THE RIGHT SORT OF HUMEROUS FRIENDS LOL,LOL,LOL,.
ITS JUST A NUMBER 5 0 THATS ALL. I LOOK AT PEOPLE MUCH OLDER AND MARVEL AT HOW THEY COPE AND STILL SMILE AND BE SOCIABLE AND ENJOY LIFE.
I DO NOT MEAN TO BE MORBID BUT I SAT WATCHING A PROGRAMME ABOUT 9/11 LAST NIGHT AND WHEN YOU THINK A THOUSAND OR MORE LOST THEIR LIVES IN A COUPLE OF MINUITES AND IT MAKES ME SO SAD FOR THEM AND THE PEOPLE WHO ARE LEFT BEHIND.
SO I WILL ENJOY AND BE THANKFUL BEING 50.

Take heart Helen Mirren is 68 years old, God I hope I look like that when I am 54 let alone 68, too late for me I think,
Glad we could chear you up, It really isn't that bad when you get there, and you can get away with a lot of things that you
couldn't get away with at 18, people just think your batty. Don't forget to let us know when you are nearly there and we will
try and take the edge off it for you.

I'm 65 and love being old! I wear whatever I want to rather than what is in fashion and everybody thinks I am becoming eccentric. I have a bus pass and can go where I want, most local eateries do lunch time pensioner meals at reduced prices, the local fish seller even gives a reduction on certain fish for pensioners. I can stop having to colour my hair and go grey now that I am of "a certain age", I am no longer expected to go to work so have more free time - Life's great.
