Re: Memory Foam .......

I have heard people make those comments before but know other people that love them. I have slept on one when visiting Mandi & think they would take some getting used to. The second night was better than the first.

Re: Memory Foam .......

Some memory foam does have a smell - I think they should be aired a few days before use.

I have no experience of a topper, but we all have memory foam mattresses now. The kids ones are a cheaper brand I bought off ebay, and are perfect for them.

We have a Tempur mattress, and it has been great from day one and is still as new - I think we have had it 10 years now.

I think it does get a bit warm, but I never get too hot. Ours is on a special base called froli which gives great support. I am sure if you put a memory foam mattress on other bases, such as a divan, there would be issues with moisture. It needs good airflow 🙂

Sleeping on memory foam is weird, as it does stop you tossing and turning. I know I sometimes wake up in the exact position I go to sleep in! However it doesn't stop me still being tired 😞 ... no-one has invented the rejuvenating bed yet!

Re: Memory Foam .......

I love my memory foam mattress ........ yes I get warm at times but just fling the duvet on & off if needed. I'd never go back to the other kind Smiley Happy

Re: Memory Foam .......

Yup - same here; OH loves it but I don't notice any difference tbh! She's just recently bought a memory foam pillow to help her neck too, so there must be something about them?

Re: Memory Foam .......

I got a foam topper just before last winter.  It said to leave it to air for a couple of days for the smell to go but I was impatient and only left it a few hours.  I couldn't smell anything anyway!  It is warmer with it on, which is fine in winter, I like warm.  I still had my electric blanket on with it, and you can always take it off for the summer.  I liked it but haven't put it on this winter because I have enough of a job turning over in bed since I got this new hip, I don't think I'd be able to move, lying on the foam. I miss it though. Smiley Sad

Re: Memory Foam .......

I've never been able to get on with a memory foam pillow, always wake up feeling as though I've got whiplash! Conventional pillows for me I'm afraid.

Re: Memory Foam .......

Im interested in CG's comment about still using an electric blanket with a foam topper , wouldnt that make it to hot  or even melt the foam ?

The one we are looking at is on sale although still not that cheap as its its a very well known make.   Its a topper not a mattress though so thats why i wondered about air flow & will it be hot , sweaty even LOL

It says on the box to let it rest for 72hrs before using so it can expand so prsumably that will disperse any foamy smell too 🙂

Hubby really wants one  as he has slept on them in hotels when working away from home & liked them ,  so i think we will go & fetch it & give it a go .

Thanks for all your comments they were much appreciated   i will let you know how we get on with it  m02105.gif

Re: Memory Foam .......

Well I certainly did use my electric blanket.  I never leave it on all night but I put it on an hour or two before I went to bed.  It's an underblanket and is tied to the mattress with cords to stop it moving or rucking.  I love getting into a warm bed.  There were no singe marks or anything when it was taken off in April.  But I'm just telling MY experience, I wouldn't want to be held responsible for anyone else's blanket!!Woman Surprised

Re: Memory Foam .......

Only reason i asked CG is as i do have an electric blanket on my bed now as i dont like getting into a cold bed in Winter anyway .

Maybe i wont need to use it with the topper if its as warm as ive been told   , watch this space LOL

Re: Memory Foam .......

We have a memory foam topped mattress and it soooooo cozy, yes it gets a little warm in the summer, but I just use a light cover, it is lovely to get into in the winter, I have to have quite a firm mattress with my back so this is ideal as it is softness on top of firmness if you know what I mean, not tried the pillows because I just love my feather pillows.

Re: Memory Foam .......

I've used a memory foam pillow for years now, I have a bad neck otherwise.

I think though, when we need new matresses I'll get foam though.
