I have now started to get my stocks of Soup prepared. There is nothing like a warming bowl of soup and some fresh bread as comfort food as winter draws near. I like the idea of the drinks you can warm up with Apple or Berries in the shops. Cuddly snuggly blankets or fleeces for sitting watching the telly with if your central heating is economizing. Personally i do like keeping my flat snug and keep it quite hot as i feel the cold. Nice Stew and Dumplings to warm you up!!. I know its warmer than usual at the moment but it will get colder. Brrrr, be prepared folks thats what i say and keep those tosies cozy!!.

Just make sure you have ventilation, as if the flat is airtight you might find you get condensation, my parents had this problem and now keep a couple of windows open very slightly, but they did notice the difference with the heating.
Our house isn't very old so we had insulation everywhere and we find in the winter that the heating very rarely goes on just enough to top it up, as we are south facing we find in the summer that it can be really hot.

I hope so, Last November we had new windows and doors, the ones they put in when the built the house were rubbish and drafty, So we have UPVC ones put in and the difference that has made is incredible, our Gas bill was 1/3rd cheaper than the year before. The gas company noticed we had used less and asked us to check the meter, I did and explained about the windows, ha! not letting you lot have any more money. We leave the bathroom window open a little and one in the kitchen and always use the extractor fan over the cooker and don't get any problems with condensation.

Have a look at your windows. Most PVC ones have a teeny, tiny little vent above them that should be open. Most of our tenants don't notice them! It's just enough to keep the condensation away usually. That is of course you dry clothes in the house then you need to open the windows or you WILL get condensation and then black mould.

Since we had our new central heating boiler put in, we've not used as much gas - yet but it will be interesting so see how we go on in winter. We get our electric and gas through a special scheme that Age UK run with one of the energy companies and they are reasonable. I think that over 50's can apply as well as mum has asked them could they put my name on the bills. When she told them that I was 55, they said that wasn't a problem.
