Ford KA or FIESTA??

Good evening one and all.

I am looking at buying a new (to me) second hand car but I am torn between the Ford KA or Ford FIESTA.

Can anybody give me the pros and cons for either of these?

I dont need anything bigger as there is just me and the boy and the only journeys I tend to make are taking him to his dad's house and the weekly shopping.

Thanks for any help received.

Ford KA or FIESTA??

I have a Ford Fiesta and I think it's great.  It's reliable and economical.  I only use my car for local journeys and I've never had any problems at all.

When I was looking to change cars I went on the 'Honest John' website for the pros & cons of each model & found it very helpful. Woman Happy I ended up with a Ford Fusion as I have to get a big dog in the boot!

Not a fan of any Ford but if I had to choose it would be the Fiesta.

Not a fan of the Ka I bought my son one last year and had it all checked out by the AA before I parted with my cash
pros the insurance is cheap
its easy to park
uses less fuel
cheaper tax group.
cons after only 6 mths with not much use the  back had to be welded up
the joint in the floor where the drivers seat belt  joins the car rotted to.

He now has a Fiesta style
great little car bumpy ride but still very economical
insurance is more expensive
tax is more expensive
but a much  more solid car
personally I would opt for the Fiesta

If my choice was between those two, I'd definately go for the Fiesta,

though if my choice involved others then I wouldn't choose Ford at all.

I did have a Ford KA as a courtesy car a few years back and I hated

it 'coe it only had two doors, boot was uselessly small (couldn't get

small buggy and four bags of shopping in) and the whole thing was

far too small for my liking - no protection in an accident.

Between the 2 a Fiesta. I drive a Honda Jazz when I am not in a Transit.

She is small nippy, economical to run and not too expensive to insure. They do have a reputation for being an old lady's car but will happily cruise along a motorway at 70. The boot  is big enough for a fortnights shopping or a border collie.

I have even managed a flatpack single wardrobe  plus 2 small passengers. 🙂

Ginger are you calling me old 'cos I drive a Fiesta?  I'm only 55.  Old to some I know.  Mind  you, at times I do feel 85.  Smiley LOL

I've owned both.

As a woman I much prefer the KA. Insurance has been as low as £108, cheaper to run and tax than the fiesta. I wouldn't choose it if I had a baby/toddler though as boot too small for most buggies. Yet for shopping I can get 8 full carrier bags in easily.

I've got the 1.3 KA and its very easy to drive. I suppose a lot depends on if you prefer 2 or 4 doors?

No books, I think ginga is calling me an old lady because I drive a Honda Jazz!  It IS an old ladies car and I feel more of an old lady driving this than I did my 2ltr Audi Quatro.  Wish I'd never changed it.Woman Sad

NOOO!!!

The Jazz has a reputation for being an old ladies car but I loves mine and I'm only 43.

I wouldn't dream of insulting anyone one on here, I save that for SC Smiley Very Happy

Mine is a Ford KA 1.3  & i love it , ive had it  from new , its  cheap to insure & low on fuel consumption 🙂

Ive not had much trouble in that time but i dont do many miles .  Its just right for me as a run about but hubby has a BMW so we use his at weekends  or whenever we go anywhere together .

One good point on the KA is  my back seats can be put down giving more space for transporting larger items than hubby can fit in his BMW .

On the down side the KA   did need a bit of bodywork doing last mot & garage man told me that KA's often rust  more quickly than some other makes , but  mine is Y reg so its only to be expected on a car that age .

I had a Ford KA to drive for a couple of days as a courtesy car from the garage.

It was absolutely foul.  It felt very cheap and flimsy and I felt as though it would tip over when I went round a large roundabout.  i just did not feel safe in it.  I think it would have been really poorly protected in an accident.

None of this was made any better by the fact that it smelt of wee.  But this must have been done to a previous driver!  Im sure not all Ford KA's smell of wee.  Its just when I see one now I always shudder.

Fiesta .

But, check out your insurance/tax etc first.. could help you decide!

And have a drive in each to see which is most comfortable/quiet/space etc

tintin, have you considered the older model Nissan Micra ? That might suit your needs as well and being the older model can sometimes be bought at a very reasonable price.

I think out of all the smaller cars, I'd go for a Corsa, the new type.

They're not ridiculously small, they look quite good, especially the

yellow ones.  The old Corsas are a bit small, but the newer ones

(from about '07 onwards) are more the size of the older Astras.

When I eventually have to change my 18 yr old Astra, I'll be deciding,

I think between a Corsa and a Meriva.  Not keen on the newer Astras.

I like cars that have good visibility and are light and airy too, nice big

windows.

I know I'm proper fussy!

Thanks for all the input....will consider very carefully. I am going from a large Ford Mondeo and downsizing....Love the Mondeo but the size sometimes makes it difficult to park and reverse

As to Nissan Micra and Corsa - those two are out of the equation as I like my Ford cars first and foremost.
