Faulty item

I purchased a cast iron post box on 11th December 2022 which has already broken, the lock no longer works after such a short time. I contacted the seller on 10th March who said he would send a new lock, the lock that arrived was completely different! So we still have a post box that we can not lock!! They asked us to source our own new lock, which is proving very difficult after searching at several different locksmiths! They offered £10 discount which doesn't go anywhere near the price of a new lock

( approx £25)  after numerous emails to the seller we are no further ahead. We have sent them images of the broken lock. They just keep saying they haven't got any replacement locks. We have been very patient, but do not feel that the seller is being very helpful after nearly 2 weeks. We have now asked for a refund or a new postbox sent that will work or the very least a higher reduction in price for the broken one. The lock should not have broken after such a short period of time, obviously it was faulty. We have also seen that one of the customer reviews has reported the very same problem as well as the paint peeling off.

best regards

If you post in Discussion > Selling you may receive a quicker reply.

If this were me, as soon as the Seller didn't do what they said in a timely manner (send an actual replacement lock), I would have immediately opened a  return case for defective item. Once you open this case, communicate calmly and logically, so that if the Seller still hasn't helped within another three days, you can escalate it to eBay. Hopefully you did all this within your 30-day MBG protection period.

Do you mean 11 December 2024, and not nearly 3 years ago?

Even if it was last year , you are far too late to claim any refund from eBay under their 30 day MBG,  and too late to claim from your payment provider.

Just a tip for future purchases, never accept a replacement as that one will not be covered if the same fault appears, always go for a refund,  which you will receive but you must claim within 30 days of the item's last estimated date for delivery.

Familiarise yourself with eBay's 30 day MBG link below,  there's never a need for long discussions with a seller when receiving a faulty item, just open that  return case in time.

I think the original purchase was 11 December 2022, tressygirl, as the original post was made in March 2023.

Ok, so maybe it was posted on the wrong board in the first place (I don't know how many look at the Family Home and Garden thread compared to the Buying or Selling threads) but it does seem a little, well, odd that the OP apparently just left it there and didn't follow anything up when no-one responded.

Then again there do seem to be an increasing number of very old posts receiving responses lately which does bump them up to the first page. Personally I can't see the point in replying to a post which is two or three years old - if the OP really wanted a response they would have chased it up by now and if no-one has replied then it probably doesn't matter anymore.

Oopsy @thesmokingrunner ,  you're right,  and I admit, I didn't see that the first reply was to an unanswered post from years ago, so didn't check the OP's date of posting.
