Bit of advice please about night time photography 🙂

I want to take wildlife 'photos but they won't accept me leaving an outside light on. Have tried using car headlamps with some success as you can see but would really like to know more about using infra-red please.

Photobucket

I have this camera light but bulb is dead and I wondered if I could get an infra red bulb for it and use that?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions :-)

Hi borzoi, great photo, not sure if you can use an infra red and/ or if it would do what you want it to do for you??

I know there is a company on ebay that will customise the nikon d70 to take infra red pics but beyond that I am really not sure, have a look at this though that I found......you might be onto something!!

Please let us know how you go on because I am very interested!

Morning all

Looking for a bit of advice and before I go and spend the day googling I thought I'd ask here 😄

Any advice on taking pics of silver jewellery because I can't seem to focus them all over - I have loads of stuff like this to take pics of but as you will see it's just not right

i think you have a little too much light Sheena the silver looks too 'white' imo

not sure what to suggest as i tried jewellry photos once and laughed so hard at the result 😐

btw that slate needs cleaning or a different background altogether

If you want to get it all in focus you need to set teh aperture to at least F8 if possible, if it doesn't allow you to set the f stop then use a setting for scenery and this should automatically set the f stop to a suitable one.

I would also agree that you need a little less light and a different background

thanks guys - I'm not really sure how to go about getting less light but I'm sure I'll find a way....or just wait for a duller day :^O

As for the background, it really was just the first thing I found but what would you suggest? Is it the colour that's wrong or the texture or both....I really am a novice at photography. I'd prefer to go with something natural if at all possible eg slate, stone, wood and I was toying with the idea of cleaning then varnishing the slate ?:|

Yes they are towery, they are a bit freaky aren't they? lol. I was going to use blue filters for the sky but it was too hazy/ c;oudy so the red did actually work better on this occasion

sheena , i think its that the piece isnt 'rustic' enough for slate

is it for web advertising?

ill have a think

you could ask on a new thred on the board if you like, there are a few people who may have better ideas about background
i wonder if you could find or make a bust mannekin and hang them on that - earrings would he harder

One of those Volcanic sunsets, I used an ND grad filter to block out some of the harsh bright light in the sky

It was a training course run by Annabelle Williams , all about starting your own photography business, I opted for one specifically about photography Stu rather then general marketing

I have a couple of good books one is by Damien Lovegrove on weddings and marketing

first steps is to brand yourself sound stupid but you are a brand then you need to market your brand
I would also recommend joining Flickr where your find like minded friends and maybe a photography buddy also a camera club is a great idea, Me and a few friends started a camera club locally via flickr 18 mths ago just tracked down the people posting images in our area started an on line group now we meet twice a month have 50 members and are entering EFA comps with judges coming in

If you join Flickr add me as a contact

Thanks for the reply, I will have a look into the course!

I already have some of Damien Lovegroves books and put a fair bit into practise.

I am in the process of building the brand and have a guy helping me with the web stuff to get the visibility up etc. I also have some partnerships with local companies involved in the wedding trade which is starting to pay off too. With a mixture of different types of advertising it is steadily coming on and so far I have 18 jobs for this year (some have already been done in the last few months)with a handful already for next year, mind you I have none abroad 😞

I will have a look at flickr some point this week

I started properly at the beginning of the year but had done a lot of the background work between October and December last year. We are already with the local chambers so that has given me a good start too
