Flash photography bain of my life, obviously with my job i not only have two flash guns but also studio lights

when do i use flash ermm well macro work mainly requiring a ring fill flash, this is only because the dedicated macro lens even set at F22 has a narrow DOF

do i use it for portrait work not if i can help it, shooting into the sun example at a building with the sun directly behind it you can use a 1/6 fill flash which will cut out any harsh shadows or try looking in your camera menu and see if it has a setting for ACTIVE D lighting this is great if the sun is is harsh or some one is walking from a shadow area into bright sunlight

you certainly dont need flash for sunrise (3am start) or sunset
in fact i dont even use flash for night time shots
like stu said the best thing you can get is a tripod a nice sturdy one

try not to take your camera out in the rain if you want to purchase it a cello cover retail for around £4.99 for a pack of two it has a tie off for different length lenses

take a look round flickr and search out your camera and it will give you a clue what can be done with it

Taken about midnight using light from the moon and pollution from the main town which was 20 miles away about a 7 minute exposure (no flash)

well the blurdy weather has really ruined it all! was hoping to go into liverpool today and go round the cathedrals and china town while doing a bit with the old camera......will have to wait for another day now:-(

Actually, though it rained a tad yesterday and was chilly but sunny today both sports days went ahead.


I got some brilliant shots of our sons running, jumping, falling over etc.:^O

But sorry, I'm not posting them on here.:-)

just getting the sports days out of the way is a great joy for many head teachers - ive known them be re scheduled 2 or 3 times

I started editing my US photos as I have my laptop back now and believe it or not the power cable isn't charging the laptop so it is just about to die. I am so frustrated it with :(

they all went shortly after taking that picture stu, just as well because cats and magpies knew they were there and you can only spend so much time scaring them all off

but all five are now hiding in various bushes around the place 🙂

I went out and bought a little point and shoot camera today for me to take to sporting events etc when the security people don't like you taking the big camera with lots of lenses as they get funny about it and think you are professional!!

So I now have a little Canon A470 Powershot. Great little camera - really pleased with it and will be just right for putting in my handbag :)
