I do not own a cat but keep getting "presents" of dead birds on my doorstep from local cats. I think they are "presents"?? Anyone know why the cats are doing this? I have 4, not very friendly to cat dogs.

Just as well it's dead birds.
If it was live mice you'd know they thought of you as their kitten and wanted to teach you to hunt....

Jasper, in his prime would bring mice, birds, voles, even baby rabbits home. But probably the strangest thing he dragged in through the cat flap one Sunday was a whole roast chicken... still warm!
They are just trying to keep us well fed!

My lovely Louis only ever brings in live prey - he's too soft to kill them, he just wants to play, The only dead thing he brought in was a blue tit last winter, but we're pretty sure it had died on a very cold night as it was rock solid.
Apart from the usual voles, shrews and mice, he brought in Rabbits, a Magpie, A Jackdaw and a **bleep** Pleasant, all very much alive - he was seen eyeing up a buzzard the other day too.

That remindes me of Gizmo, one of the many cats Ive shared a house with over the years. She was a big fluffly thing and had zero hunting skills. I would watch her out my window, stalking birds on the lawn. She would be flat on her stomach creeping slowly............ with a big feather duster of a tail sticking straight up waving around. The bords would wait till she was within a foot or two and then fly off! Genghis ( another of our cats) was a great hunter and you could see he was disgusted with her
So one day Gizzy rushes on and depoits a dead mouse at my feet. Very dead. Like several days dead! I always thought that Genghis had given it to her to bring in so as not to disgrace the cat race!
