have a Dell laptop & an emachine tower, both running Windows7.
Can't get the tower machine to go but the lappy's fine so I don't think it's a broadband problem.
When I switch on, I get the windows logo as usual while it does it's thing, then the screen changes to choose the user - me or son
I click on my name which usually takes me to my home page but for past couple of days, I've been getting "User Profile Service service failed the log on. User profile cannot be loaded" with a wee box underneath that says OK.
Tried both left & right clicking on the ok button but both just make it change back to the choose user page.
Going round & round in circles.
Tried the usual switching off then on again & removing the plug for a bit, then switching on again but still can't get past this page. Don't know son's password to try logging in as him.
Bit stuck as the printer etc are connected to the tower - supposedly wireless but never been able to get the laptop / printer combo working.
Any suggestions, please?
Thank you

Have you tried starting in safe mode and doing a restore?

Erm........................... Would that be in english, stroppy?
Think we'll presume that's it's a no then 😞
Can't start it in any mode - can't get past the 'select user' page to do anything. I usually just click on my name & it logs me in automatically without having to enter a password or anything.

Hopefully, the cavalry's arrived! Managed to contact son & he's guddling about with it remotely ........ weird watching it doing stuff when I'm not making it go!

Hope he manages to sort it for you.
For info, to start in safe mode keep pressing the F8 key as the poot starts up - works on most.

Thanks for all your help, stroppy 🙂 Looks like son's guddling has got it sorted.
No idea what went wrong or how he did it but no matter!
As long as it works, that'll do me 🙂

As long as he has Admin rights he can change the user details
Appears for whatever reason, you lost your password in the auto log-in process
