It was merely the top bit that was open, the shaft itself was filled in... I think!

This is the shaft that has it's top area exposed, but like I say, it's filled in. You might not see it in this pic, but the rotating beam is just under that tree along the ground:

Ah... I think I can just about make it out; I also see a dark area near one of the big leaves in the lower left foreground - is that part if the shaft itself?

No, that's just junk, mud and leaves. You can't see into the shaft itself... I don't think, I didn't want to jump down into the thing then go and fall through!

Good thinking...

Bizarrely, one of the orders from today is for a business on the very same lane I parked on to gain access to the colliery and railway line site! Tis a small world!
02-06-2020 10:47 PM
Curious!
Would that give you an excuse to make a delivery there so you can have a quick further explore at the same time?

If it was purchased on Thursday or Friday, I could have used it as an excuse to go back, however, I'll be going back anyway, possibly this Sunday, though this time I'll be bringing some equipment! You know, the usual stuff, pick axe, spade, machete, semtex, the normal stuff I take to a site I have interest in 😉

Maybe The Mole from Thunderbirds...?

*Shhhh* That's a closely guarded secret!
Anyway, I got myself a rake from B&M Bargains yesterday for £5... no way was I going to buy the flimsy thing they were offering at B&Q for £25... and I'll be taking it to Clifton Junction, rake the place clean of those reeds, seeing as they are only on the surface it's going to be easy, take a while, but easy, plus I'll be able to rake up the balast that is still on the ground, just a little muddy.
Also, I have named my rake, Sir Francis!

That is an absolutely awful pun.
I like it!
Aaarrgghh.... you got the half snipe!!!
18-06-2020 12:35 PM
Couldn't resist the pun.
Annoyingly, I'm currently a bit incapacitated, both my arms are in a state of poor condition, my left has lost nearly all strength and I cannot straighten it out entirely, not with my fingers extended anyway. My right arm, currently is swollen from my elbow down to most of my forearm, I cannot extend it out, nor retract it to my shoulder, can't raise my hand up from my wrist and even just sleeping is a real pain. So sadly I won't be at any stations for the time being 😞
18-06-2020 10:50 PM
Oh my... what on Earth has happened? That sounds rather alarming?

Just repetitive strain injury in both arms, thankfully getting better now, but the pain at the time was very excruciating.
Well I went back to Hyde Road this weekend, this time with a better designed cradle drop for my phone and also managed to get a better view down into the void, so I now know where I need to start digging next, as from the footage I got, one side is open, I just need to shift the top soil and brick rubble to expose the way in.... unfortunately I don't think I will be able to do anything this next weekend, as they are putting in the new bridge on Saturday and I don't know if they will be working through Sunday, but I'll ask when I get to the site at 5am on the Saturday!
24-06-2020 10:24 PM
How did you get that much RSI in your arms? Wasn't from all this exploratory digging was it/
25-06-2020 12:30 PM
It was from coming off furlough and back to a bucket load of orders 😞
25-06-2020 9:01 PM
Ah.... the massive catch up has started, then?
26-06-2020 10:27 AM
And continues, we've been having tons of orders come in every single week since we reopened, every week is a catch up!
Anyway, I'm getting myself ready for tomorrow, will be at the site from 5:30am and it's going to be a long day watching the bridge over at Hyde Road get put in, though I'm disappointed that I'm going to have to wait another week to begin my next dig at the site, in order to expose the opening that will enable me to enter the void for the underground passenger subway!
26-06-2020 10:46 PM
05.30?!?
Good grief!
Does such a time still exist....?!?
29-06-2020 11:31 AM
Indeed it does!
The new bridge apparently the bridge will have a hundred year life span, so about 15 years in real terms. I'll be back next weekend to start digging by the opening in the wall, hopefully get in that same day and have a scramble around inside!
