Indeed it is!

Nice board out the front, and it is still distinctly recognisable as a station in itself isn't it?

Indeed it does, although it has had an extension added to it, plus the station platform is gone sadly, but yes you wouls still recognise that it was a station.

Here's one of the hard fought pics I took of what is left of Sankey Bridges Station, ie just the one platform (btw, they're planning on closing down Sankey Station next):

Also I'll be doing three stations this weekend, most likely Sunday, Highlane Staton, Middlewood Higher Station and Higher Poynton Station. If you go to Street View in Google and have a look at Higher Poynton Station, you can see what's left of the station... the station buildings may have gone, along with the track, but the platform is looking good!

Rather a lot of vegetation on that track!

True, I'm not sure how active the line itself is, as just a little past the Arpley Station area, the line stops, and just looks like it's being used to store carriages, plus Warrington Bank Quay Lower is on the same line as Arpley and Sankey Bridges stations, so the line might not be being used for passenger services, just for freight!

If I remember I'll have a look at the maps over the weekend.  I'm running very late again tonight so not really got the time right now...

I went to all of them, all have good points, all have bad points obviously! Higher Poynton is the best preserved, though it's clear they haven't really been upkeeping the place, it's in desperate need of maintenance! High Lane has most of both it's platforms, but it would appear that sometime recently, the edge flagging for the platforms has been removed and I didn't find anybody who knew what had happened. Higher Middlewood, that was something of a surprise, yes the main parts have been removed, the platform and ticket office, but I found the support columns in the undergrowth, plus, the Lower Middlefield station, the platform may still be in use, the ticket office for that has been mostly demolished, however it was easily accessible by hopping the small wooden fence and scrambling down the hillside, so I also had a good look around there too!

All in all, a sucessful days explore!

That sounds like those coping stones have probably ended up as paving slabs in someone's garden... whether the person who now owns them knows where they come from or not is, of course, another matter altogether but I'll bet they were charged an absolute fortune for them!

Not sure if that's the case with High Lane, as the place has been cleared of a lot of trees and bushes, plus where the station building would have been, there's planking with a flat bed of sand in it, so it might be that they're fixing the place up similar to Higher Poynton!

Speaking of which, from first to last pic, Higher Poynton, Higher Middlewood, Lower Middlewood, High Lane:

The first of those looks like a really nice park - and in the last I spy something of interest in the background.  Did you walk through it just for the sake of doing so...?

Actually no, I had to walk through it, the side of the road which I had to park, I couldn't get to the station street level entrance, the road was just too busy to cross, so I went down the other side of the road, where I was parked and received the surprise of the new tunnel.

Now to plan the next set of stations, problem is, I've done nearly all in the region that are within average driving distance, I'm going to have to go further afield, which means a fair bit of petrol being used! 😞

Perhaps you could combine those trips with another purpose to spread the cost out a bit across everything?

I would if I could, I actually have no purposes to go to these places, other than because of the disused railway stations. The only stations I have been able to combine a reason for going to them, has been Bolton and a couple places in the outer edges of Manchester city... Ramsbottom, Conwy, Kendal and Keswick, were due to day outs with the parents. So I have to pick targets that are reasonably close, but I've exhausted them all, meaning I will now have to travel further afield 😞

Looks like no choice, then...  but on the plus side, you will get a lot of new sites in.

Well, I've just found two in Moore just in lower Warrington and another just before Runcorn East, but if I can, I may be able to factor in another, plus the two in Moore are literally down the road from each other, and the sites, whilst will be trouble to explore properly, they are quite exposed sites, so I should be able to get a lot of pics!

Yes, two more, in Moore...... in a village! laughing

Both sites I can see down into the platform areas quite clearly, plus both station buildings are there too!

I wonder if you saw my tweet this morning that might give you a clue as to why I said I might vanish from on here before long...?
