Well I wouldn't say 'near', the place is in Wales, I just go there from time to time 😁
Niether timescale, finances, plus I have to pave the front garden first, so they can put the scaffold on there, rather than use the next door neighbour's drive like last time.

Wales? Blaeneau...?
As to the other... things these days are like being an air traffic controller aren't they? You have to get everything done in a given order without any of it tripping over anything else...!!!

Just a little further south-east from there, about a 15-20min drive away. I used to holiday in Ty Capel for about 15 years, which is about 25min drive south-east again.

While I've done the railways in that area, the nearest I've been for a holiday was summer 2019 in Porthmadog.
It was a pure coincidence, I claim, that Porthmadog is full of steam trains... I mean... what a fortunate coincidence...!!!

Ah yes, Porthmadog, I know it well. It's just around the corner from Criccieth, where I've spent a lot of my holidays.

Indeed - on one day in our holiday, we walked from Porthmadog to Criccieth on the coast path and then got the train back.

Excellent, better than my walk, no trains to hop back on. Walked from Llanbedrog to Abersoch over the hill path, lots of thorny bushes, then back to Llanbedrog around the shore line, past my fave Hopper ruin, all while barefoot!

We were a bit fortunate with the train back... only a 15 - 20 minute fester at Criccieth... and it was a Sunday so the timetable had 4 hour gaps... missing it would have meant a taxi back.
Probably would have been a better idea, in hindsight, to get the train out and walk back wouldn't it...?

Indeed. Just like me going back to get my trainers would have been a better idea than walking on all the thorn bushes, stones and rocks while barefoot, luckily I didn't end up with my feet shredded, just a bit sore when I got back.

That does sound somewhat uncomfortable!!!
Perhaps you should do the Criccieth to Porthmadog ( or the way we did it - depending on which end you're staying obviously ) walk at some point; I think you'd probably like it.

Very uncomfortable, but I did it and won't be doing it again.
Usually I stay in one of the seafront hotels in Criccieth, so I'd be walking down to Porthmadog and coming back on the train to Criccieth.

Hmm... I'd suggest, in that case,... get the train down to Porthmadog then walk back; avoids the risk of a 2 hour fester if you mistime it plus heading towards Criccieth you'll have the castle as a visual target once you get round the headland at Porthmadog. Then as soon as you finish the walk you can get your feet up in the hotel. 🙂

Hmm..... are you a fast walker? To coin a phrase, it's quite a hike... here's some pictures from the day:

There's one part which crosses a beach with a particularly awkward sand to walk on; you'll find that's the slowest part of the whole walk - and it also allows me to claim the 18,100 snipe without a no-reason run up.
