Re: ALL NEW Competition Thread...Last Post WINS ;-)

Came across a freshly dead pigeon on my way back from the chippy yesterday, as it wasn't there when I walked past that spot not more than 5 min prior. Must've hit a window and broke its neck, poor thing!

Luckily I didn't break my own neck just the other Friday, was on the last session on the last day of my high activity holiday, stepped out onto the wet outdoor wooden decking area, due to the rain, the foot I was stood on gave way when I lifted my other to take another step, fell backwards and cracked my head rather hard like, on the wooden door frame, which split my scalp open a few inches, which as you could probably guess, bled like crazy. I could feel the blood running down my front, down my back, into my eye, must have lost at least close to a pint by the time the pads and bandages stopped it... I wasn't a pretty sight, so off to A&E I had to go and, despite the mess, the injury, it was the flesh glue that the physician used to seal me back up, that hurt the most!

I have pics if want to see laughing

Re: ALL NEW Competition Thread...Last Post WINS ;-)

It was more of a general question to all, I just hit the reply to your message because I was being too lazy to go back to the top of the page and hit the regular thread Reply button 😄

I only ever use the reply button on the post at the end of a thread... never the one at the top of the thread.

I normally use the Reply button of the last post too, but if I have a general question, I will use the one at the top.... unless I just can't be bothered going though all the trouble.

Head is healing, but not quite there yet, shampoo is out of the question, plus it's itching like mad now!

Everything is starting to feel good now, it seems the seam is not visible now unless I prop my hair out of the way... which is good!

Perhaps a hat would help to both hide it and protect it.

Dare I suggest one of the famous flappy hats...?

Re: ALL NEW Competition Thread...Last Post WINS ;-)

Hmm, I'll go for a bucket hat!

Anyway, I'll be off revisiting an old haunt this weekend, Cadishead Railway Station, but I'll also be streching my legs over the whole area, possibly try and find remnants of the older station and line, that ran the site before the canal was dug and they had to build the new line and station! Though if not, I can sort out all the features that I never looked at as all I was interested in at the time was the modern disused station!

Re: ALL NEW Competition Thread...Last Post WINS ;-)

Indeed it is, a long while now.

So I did that, however I'm going to have to go back near winter time, as the place was so overgrown with bramble, the trees, nettles and other such annoyances, plus bring my machette too 😄 I did find a few things whilst I was there though, several communication posts still standing, along with the original line!

I also went to Haverthwaite heritage railway station, took a bunch of photos of the station and ther other little things to help my understanding features of the other sites that I go to, I now know what a few things on the ground along the Clifton line that I visited in April are. Though it was on the way back that I got another special treat, we had a detour to Ulverston, on the way back from there we stopped at a picnic spot, realised that there was an old rail line going through the place, decided to check the old station map, to find that Greenodd Railway Station was within a few minutes walking distance, so I went on down to have a look! Sadly on first glance, everything was gone, but on a whim's decision, I went over to photograph the edge where the signal box use to be, that was when I realised that not everything was gone like it appeared, there was a gap in the fence for the embankment of the estuary, so I hopped over and I received a pleasant surprise, I actually found the east side platform. As said the signal box was gone, but also gone was the shelter and the wall at the back of the platform, though there was a few of the base bricks left in situ, lastly down the embankment near the water's edge, I also found one of the concrete platform edging slabs, which marked the end of that unexpectedly successful explores!

Good point about the undergrowth getting in the way, but at least you have more daylight hours and warmer weather at this time of year.

I do like the extra light, but I most definitely could do without the heat, I was sweating like Michael Jackson's doctor in the stand!

Anyway, I'll post a few pics later when I get them and my video's done, but for now, here's a few from Greenodd station:
