New eBay Payment rules, fees & (postage restrictions for sellers later this year)

Anyone else find these new rules are going to make eBay a lot worse?

Feb-2025 - Fee for Buyers when purchasing - Surely this will limit sales and push buyers to other platforms. They say its to match with other sites, but seem to be missing the point that once someone has had something for FREE all this time, they wont want to then pay for it when they are pretty much getting nothing for this fee (as its pretty much the same as the 30 day money back guarantee already gave them)

Feb-2025 - Payments for private sellers withheld until after 2 days after delivery or up to 2 weeks if not tracked - Surely this will mean sellers pushing items to over sites

Coming later in 2025 - eBay postage only - having to purchase via eBay all postage for items sold on eBay (no more post office or freedom to choose how you ship externally) (This will certainly see Sellers move away from eBay)

All these changes will hurt eBay, and they have just been forced on to the eBay community. With such drastic change, it should be optional or at least send a survey out for a vote on this. I see eBay drastically losing market share here.

I hope the eBay analytics team are watching to see how many long running eBay accounts suddenly stop selling / buying once these changes come into force. Its easy to loose customers but its much harder to gain them back again.

Buyers wont see any additional fee the fee will be hidden in the difference between what the seller sees and what the buyer sees. Although not explained exaclly how it will work presumably if you list an item for £10 the price the buyer will see is 10+0.75 , with 4% added on so £11.18

I think a lot more people will use Vinted. I for one now buy on there, it’s so much easier to ask the seller questions

I can see about  2 Macbooks  for sale on Vinted currently and 5600+ on eBay UK, so it probably depends  on what you want to buy, what's difficult about asking a question on eBay?

I totally agree that the new rules re payment and adding 4% onto my price will push people away. People complain about vinted cos of this way of dealing with payments and if I can’t use Royal Mail in the future I’m def out. Royal Mail are the most reliable, bring my label and collect from home. I’m not able to keep going to mail boxes. When will eBay ask before making changes. We are their bread and butter !!  Soooooo disappointed. ☹️

Do we have anything written from eBay regarding the pot changes?

If so please could someone post a link in here so I can have a read, Cheers.

For now maybe but when the "influx" happens (?) will they not just do the same as everyone else and do away with all options to list for "free".

In other words "if you aint got a (ticket) you ain't coming in".

These sites are only available because of the preplanned potential financial input they have built their sites on,they are not doing it all out of kindness.

I presume you mean post changes (Simple Delivery):

Thanks, I just hope this stays true so I can use Royal Mail.

Opting out

You can opt out of Simple Delivery when you're creating your listing by selecting Custom Postage from the delivery options. If you'd prefer not to use Simple Delivery at all in the future, you'll need to opt out each time this programme is recommended when you're creating listings.

Keep in mind that if you opt out, you won't benefit from the enhanced cover for loss or damage to the item during transit offered by Simple Delivery.

Whilst I understand the need to increase Ebay's revenues'

1)      the recent changes to the 'My saved feed', which is now an utterly useless tool,

2)    the delays in payment for Seller's,

3)    later on EBay dictating who will be the postage courier provider

mean that I can see that I will be contacting my 100 favourite Sellers in good time to advise them them that I will not be bidding for their items since I will not find the items in time, so they might want to advertise elsewhere.

I most definitely will not be sending items through one particular courier, since the parcels are left in the wet or left at the wrong address in my experience.

Lastly - not going to even consider restating selling anything on Ebay this year.

If Ebay wants to wreck carefully crafted searches and dictate the use of postage, then I can't be bothered to spend time and money with Ebay.

It is very simple the CUSTOMER IS KING   - both sellers and buyers are now EBay customers.
