Proving my age without a credit card!

I see others have already asked this question (“I do not have a credit card, is there any other way to prove my age to eBay?”), but received little relevant response, with all manner of ‘real world’ suggestions (from joining porn sites, to showing your driving license!), none of which relate to the exclusive eBay setup.

I can only assume the answer to be ‘No’.

so much for living in an ‘inclusive’ world.

Unbelievable, I'm afraid the big river got my business instead, ebay seriously need to take a look at this.🤬🤬

They also do not accept American Express. So not only are non credit card holders excluded but those that only hold AMEX are excluded as well. I have been with them for 22 years and am certainly taking my business elsewhere due to their narrow vision of themselves.

Yes, it seems they're more than aware they're excluding many from their site, i purchased the desired item elsewhere without challenge, it's left a sour taste in my mouth though🤬

Pay off a credit card every monthly payment day and (1) you don't pay any interest (2) your card provider pays you via a points system or similar.

Cards often offer deals e.g. discounts off breakdown cover, insurance, or extra cashback on large kitchen appliances.

Credit card points effectively give a refund on your purchases. For me, my annual lump sum earned from points it's a way of keeping down overall bills or, in recent years, of going on a totally free (or "free") long holiday each year; even better when I bought a replacement kitchen and car (my card's phone assistant unofficially advised me to use my credit card, to get the points; I'd originally planned to pay by debit card).

Due to credit cards' high interest rate, it doesn't make sense to use it to have optional debt as there are other methods that charge far less interest.

Re: Proving my age without a credit card!

I have spent a great deal one way and another on eBay and will continue to
so do but although a jigsaw has a little blade am surprised such a thing
should give rise for concern, have the responsible people looked at a
jigsaw, just asking?

'.....have the responsible people looked at a

Nothing around here is done by 'responsible people'.  All this stuff is done by computer/A.I.

A programmer is just told to include all devices that possess a blade (of any kind) and the computer than just sticks the same message on all of them.

Common sense and responsibility have nothing to do with it; just the bottom line. And this is the cheapest way.

Computer says no..............

Yes, that's the bottom line, it's cheap and indiscriminate, and to blazes
with common sense.

I too am trying to buy a bare unit planer and don’t have a credit card. I haven’t heard of anyone being planed to death

I had to use my credit card to buy a little plastic cutlery set.

And, yes, I know it seems silly but Ebay asks for proof of age at the point of sale for any bladed item.

Personally, I would rather use a credit card than my driver's licence which shows my full name, home address, and date of birth plus a photo.

The simple way around this is to get somebody with a credit card to buy on your behalf and reimburse them.

Re: Proving my age without a credit card!

That is unfortunately all Ebay themselves could offer, i can't even imagine
the shame of having to ask a friend or neighbour to buy on my behalf, i
couldn't do it.

Really?  Even when you explained the reason,  that is,  it's purely an eBay Company issue / ruling, with age verification.

I'm sure a friend / family member with a credit card on their eBay account if they are eBay holders of course,  would be happy to do so.  Why wouldn't they ?? 🤔

Re: Proving my age without a credit card!

I should add no jigsaw would be posted with a battery so cannot function
and killer point the blade is not fitted in any jigsaw sale so unless I
throw the thing at another it is harmless. I had to buy my jigsaw on
another platform, this platform had no guarantees of delivery such as eBay
but it all worked out. How frustrating to see eBay diminishing its bottom
line.

Re: Proving my age without a credit card!

Seems like a general attack on tools, why one might ask, well we could make
something and they do not approve of that. Maybe we could make weapons
with our planer and jigsaw.

Re: Proving my age without a credit card!

Whoever it was who mentioned digital stupidity nailed it. Maybe they'd like to see my pension statement? I haven't had a credit card for more than 20 years, and don't intend to get one either. And again in keeping with the ridiculousness of the thing, not only would I have to find a power socket in order to use my new saw to cut my poor victim in half, with it being a (UK) 110v tool, I'd have 20kg of transformer in the other hand to deal with too... I'm vastly more likely to die trying than successfully murder anyone.

Well done eBay, well done.....

Re: Proving my age without a credit card!

Agree, it's a complete joke, there has to be a better way, but that would
probably cost money in running and administration expenditure that they're
too tight to spend.
