Overdue return

I forgot to return an item that is damaged.  The return was meant to be posted by the 10th which was yesterday. It says if there is no activity by the 16th, they will close the case. I still have the option to add tracking.  If I returned the item today with tracking, will I still get a refund?

I think I'm too late. There isn't an option to print the label.

You could always try your funding source.

Re: Overdue return

Would the first port of call not be the seller? Perhaps explain, see if they would still be willing to refund if you returned? Might have to be a label at your cost though now.

Though you are taking them at their word.

Though unsure if a refund could still be done if the return case was closed.

Did the seller ever send you a label in the first place?  If you don't recall ever receiving an eBay Returns Label from the seller then contact eBay Customer Service and explain that you do not appear to have received a label with which to return the item, and ask if they could make one available to you.  If that doesn't work then you may well have to do as @jonatjonatjonat has suggested and post the item back to the seller using a label that you have purchased.  If you do resort to doing this, though, make sure that you buy a fully tracked postage label, as if you returned the item using untracked postage the seller could potentially say "I never received the item back from the buyer", in which case eBay may well close the case in the seller's favour due to the absence of any tracking to prove attempted or successful delivery of the item back to the seller.

If you were to buy your own postage label you would have to enter the tracking number manually, but so long as eBay were able to ascertain from the tracking number that attempted or successful delivery to the seller had taken place you should be able to secure a refund, although if the seller did not refund your money voluntarily then you would have to escalate the case to eBay so that they could force a refund.

If something has gone wrong and the case has either timed out on you or has been closed in the seller's favour then if you paid for the item via PayPal try opening a case against the seller there, although you ought to bear in mind that PayPal only allow thirty days for a buyer to do this, and you would need to escalate the case to PayPal within twenty days if the seller proved to be unhelpful, as if you leave it longer than that the PayPal case would automatically time out.

Ifyou didn't pay via PayPal and paid via credit or debit card then your next best option would be to contact your card provider and do a chargeback to see if you can get a refund that way.
