Nectar Points and Ebay, things are changing

It looks like the relationship between Nectar and eBay is changing, as i've just had this email from Nectar

"From the 1st of September, the way you collect and spend Nectar points with eBay is changing.

You will no longer be able to collect or spend Nectar points directly on the eBay website or app, and your Nectar and eBay accounts will be unlinked.

However, you will be able to collect Nectar points on your eBay transactions when you shop via Nectar. Simply search for eBay on the Nectar app or website and click out to the eBay website or app to make your purchase. And the good news is you will be able to collect 2pts for every £1 spent at eBay (instead of the current 1pt per £1)*. Head to https://www.nectar.com/eshops to find out more.

Any vouchers that you have already created on eBay before 31st August will remain valid on eBay until their expiration. Any points you have collected will remain in your Nectar account ready for you to spend on the things you’d like from our other partners like Sainsbury’s, Argos, Esso, British Airways and many more.

For any questions, please see FAQs here.

In the meantime, you can keep collecting and spending Nectar points at eBay.

To get the most out of Nectar, download the Nectar app.

Thanks,
The Nectar Team"

so if you want to spend your nectar points on ebay create the vouchers now, and if you want to keep collecting points you'll need to come in via the nectar site/app rather than directly to ebay

Wow,   that's a big change and thanks for that heads up,  I'm sure come Sept.  if peeps have not received that informative email we're going to be inundated with questions... ' why can't we spend Nectar points on eBay !'

Wonder what prompted this change?

From a consumer point of view, I don't see that the change is needed.

It must be a cost-saving exercise for eBay.

I would think eBay would encourage people to shop at eBay rather than discourage them!

Apparently there was sometimes issues with nectar points not tracking or accounts not linking properly             ( personally 99% of the time mine worked fine with only an occasional issue). Therefore to improve this they have completely ended the rewards programme, hence no more issues with points not tracking!!!!!            Thanks Nectar, Thanks Ebay, youve really out did yourself this time....

Just my luck, I'm in the process of converting a large lump of Avios points to Nectar.

Guess I'll be spending them at Argos instead of eBay now.

I had problems when I buy occasional expensive-to-me housewares and stuff at Argos, the points would seem to take ages to show up on here. Nectar's one of THE most miserly "reward" (aka data scraping) schemes anyway so not too gutted, but things like this with relatively short notice are why I seldom "bank" points anywhere and tend to use them as soon as they're reached minimum exchange value.

I think this pretty much ends my use of Nectar now, it was good for the odd £2.50 voucher which handled P&P but I'm not using Sainsbury's often enough to make it worthwhile.

All that moaning aside 😛 ebay should have given the option to donate odd points under the minimum to a charity of your choice or something.

So if I've read the info correctly, if I want to collect nectar points after 1st September I have to log into eBay via the nectar app or website.🤔

Who's going to remember to do that every time..... or at all.

Well, I occasionally remember to log in via the TopCashBack site when I'm buying. Obviously when it changes I won't be able to long in via TCB and Nectar, so I guess Nectar will have to go. Given that we hardly ever use Sainsbury now as well, I can see my future Nectar points total will be pretty low!

Yes, I think this will be disastrous for eBay.

Yes, That is what people will do. It will affect Nectar as people will start getting paid in Amazon vouchers instead or Nectar points. This will be a huge mistake for eBay.

Yes, that is correct. Unfortunately, you will not be able to spend them on eBay after that date. The person who made this decision needs to be sacked and I will take my karma.

Nectar rewards have been terrible for years, and now they'll be even worse if we can't use points on eBay!

In my experience it was a waste of space anyway - no loss there?

Yes, I agree. Please let Nectar know that, just incase nectar are so thick that they do not know how this will affect them.

Why the reply then? Are you just going for internet points?

You're in the wrong place.

Oh didn't you know posters on the forum get points towards various badges.

Every post gets a point.

The more badges you earn the higher your title is which is why bungalowbill is a guide and you are only a contributor.

If you click on your name, or anyone else's name for that matter, it will tell you how many badges you or they've got.

It's all rather pathetic really unless you're at kindergarten.
