Keeps saying app update!! Help.

Hi everyone.on my tablet I go on Ebay UK and I have an offer from a seller but when I try to open it it just says app needs updating.i have auto updates but it keeps showing it everytime i try so I dont get it.Any ideas!!

What version number of the app do you have now?

There are things that can prevent you from getting the latest eBay app version -- such as using an old operating system, having old versions of Google Play Services or Google Play store if you use an Android device, or if a previous installation or update did not install cleanly.

Try using a browser to view your offer in the mean time.

4th Feb 2025 and this is happening on my phone app. I have android 9 and it's all been working fine. I woke up to the message "we're sorry this version of the app is no longer supported. Please take a moment to update to the latest version".

When I go to update there isn't a new version of ebay or android to get.... When I log on to the browser in my phone it still comes up with the same message so. Been using ebay daily for 23 years but now I can't ???? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

The latest eBay app version is no longer compatible with android 9 and below. It actually requires OS android 10 and above. If you have another device with android 10 and above you can check the most recently updated eBay app version and see if you can view images.

If you are using OS android 10 and above and still have issues with viewing images on the app please let me know. State what version you use and type of device and I'll have it looked into further by tech.

Just want to add this is happening with Apple devices on iOS 16 this morning, latest update requires iOS 17. Get stuck in a loop on updating, App Store pop up advises to download the older compatible version of the app but won’t !

Uninstalled and reinstalled app and all working.

New device not in my budget atm.

So are you saying I need a new phone as I can't update to a higher version on this one?

When did ebay notify us this was going to be happening?

I have also un installed ebay app and re installed but as said, I can't update to a newer version of android above 9.....

Looks like ebay has lost a 23 year old user and I have over £ 15k of items for sale. REALLY annoying doesn't even scratch the surface!

I am a member like yourself so can only pass on the information we are give, and  the message re the app I showed  above,  was provided by Kat one of out Community Managers,  a few days ago on these boards.

Okay thanks. 

I've just deleted the app from my phone and it now let's me use the browser version, so the app was actually corrupting my phone as it over rides the browser when installed!

If anyone else is struggling just delete the app for now and use the browser version.

Just asked Google if the ebay app should still work on my Sony XZ1 Compact using android 9 and got..... 

Yes, the eBay app should work perfectly fine on a Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact running Android 9 ("Pie") as it is widely compatible with most modern Android versions, including older ones like Android 9; you may just need to ensure you have the latest version of the app installed from the Google Play Store.

As already stated above, when the message comes up to update in ebay, no newer version is available?????

Mines the same its just going round and round delete app/ add app so using browser till I decide to finally say bye bye......... I have had enough after 25 years ................

Same... I'm not buying a new phone just for ebay when everything else works just fine on it.

Same problem.  Using android 9 no longer supported message.   Only started happening this am 4 Feb 25.  Ebay needs to sort this out and quick!

Just in case you missed my post above:

So we all buy tablets running 10 or above but not of course via ebay. Laughable.

eBay do not come to these boards so will not see your questions , no answer will be forthcoming from eBay.
