eBay vs Vinted

I thought I would give VINTED a Try seeing as they advertise on TV. After a month of sending documents to them they suddenly relented and allowed me to put items on their website.

But I would say they are not a patch on eBay which is a much slicker operation.

They supply a compulsory shipping label for £5.68, which incidentally does not line up with any sticky lablels you may use. Also because they have supplied it you cannot ask for the item(s) to be collected.

You also have to send the item with a VAT invoice and returns instructions

I checked them out on Companies House and it seems that their turnover has been falling drastically year afer year to just a fraction of what it once was.

But what annoys me most is that you cannot talk or Chat with anyone.

And I find it hard to run a business like that.

I use it and have never had any of the issues you are facing. Also you do not need to sent VAT invoices or return instructions. Ive sold over 100 items and have never done any such thing. Nor have I ever had to send documentation. Also vinteds market share has risen significantly in the last year. You were wrong about literally everything you stated.

I don’t think Vinted is really setup for businesses yet.

its primary user is I would say private sellers shifting second hand goods.

If you are registered as a business seller then you have to send a printed invoice and return instructions. They even send you a return instructions pdf by email that you have to include with your package.

Check them out on Companies house to see their turnover diminishing year on year.

No sir. Give me eBay every time

I wasnt aware you had to register as a business seller tbh. Regardless you are always supposed to provide VAT invoices if VAT registered. Ebay admittedtly does do a nice job of taking care of that.

In 2022, Vinted’s revenue was about €370.2 million.

In 2023, it rose to about €596.3 million, a 61% increase over 2022.

In 2024, it further increased to approximately €813.4 million, up 36% over 2023.

If vinted was that bad, ebay wouldnt be trying to copy their model in a panic.

I agree with @jonatjonatjonat it’s not really set up for businesses. I’m a registered Proseller, was accepted within hours of sending required documentation. I’ve had some success over the summer, and the no fees is certainly attractive.

One thing you have to be aware is in the T&C they state that private sellers listings are prioritised over pro sellers.
However there are no tools for business sellers, no SKU’s, or ability to filter on your own inventory,  trying to extract monthly sales figures is a procedure that took several conversations and days with the CS.

Still it’s another platform and I’ll keep using it alongside others.

I am putting my toes in there slowly, seems to be working, so much so when I get on top of everything may go down the proseller route and just have stuff on there that is no good on this platform, you think insulting offers on here are bad 🤣🤣🤣🤣
