Why are eBay's Customer Service agents alowed to say whatever they want?

Just another couple of recent examples of eBay's CS not being fit for purpose:

1. Having sold a quite expansive food supplement our customer opened a return for 'not as described - the item apaprently caused bloating'. We tried to understand what has one thing to do with another as even if the customer was right the item was still as described. Just another example that a customer can say anything to get their money back. What was shocking here happened when we contacted eBay's CS (concierge): after all the talking the agent would not understand why we would not put the item back for sale upon return. Seriously, we had to advised them that it was not just hygienic but also safe that could lead to serious consequences. We also had to remind them it would be against eBay's policy as all food items must be new as well as illegal as per UK regulations.

2. While browsing eBay for new product ideas, we came across 4 listings offering products that contained illegal substances. Sold already in hundreds of units - eBay making tens of thousands of pounds - so much for 'not allowing'. Each got reported, we even appealed and spoken to another agent just to be informed that eventually 'we didn’t find the content to be in violation of our policy.' On each occasion we provied all necessary details including the substance name, link to the manufacturer website as well as another one to the UK regulator website confirming they were banned. Regardless, each and every listing was not actioned and they are still out there - with eBay's full knowledge now advising that we can take legal actions if we are not happy with that 'under the applicable laws by a competent court or settlement body'. It really feels like we should purchase those items, consume them following eBay's agent's response and then contact the authorites so they start being concerned about the public safety.

It could not be more obvious there is no responsibility for what you get advised. How come no market regulator has been looking into these practices is a mistery here.

If you think it constitutes a "food crime", you could report it to the Food Standards Agency.  Their web site details what constitutes a food crime.  From what I've read on this forum, there is nothing that ebay won't sell if it makes a profit 😞

Already done with the same result - nothing done. Underfunded and short-staffed agency that only says what they should do... Any government body atvthe moment seems to be on their knees. Even MHRA replies not to bother them with eBay and Amazon listing. It is a wild wild west at the moment. Just a matter of time when something goes wrong big time.
