EBAY BADGE

Hi

Im looking for advice regarding the ebay badge that appears on listings.

As a top rated seller i offer

tracking on items that cost more than £20

a free delivery option that delivers within 3 days

an express delivery option that delivers within 2 days and costs no more than £10

 and a 30-day return policy.

i have contacted ebay customer services on 5/6 occassions trying to solve this issue

Can anyone help

Thanks Jess

You haven't actually said what the issue is?

I'm guessing that your complaining that your listings are not showing the badge?

If so, have you checked that all your listings actually fully comply?

Have you only just become top rated?

Have you only just changed your listings to comply with TRS?

I had the same issue initally when i first ranked top rated, My listings were compliant but no badge.

In the end i changed my dispatch to same day with a 3pm cut off and it was there immediately.

I think when eBay says you have to offer a free delivery option within 3 days, thats not just the delivery but the dispatch time as well, so you could do a 72 hour service with same day dispatch, 48 hour service with 1 day dispatch and 24 with 2 day but im not 100% sure on that

With the greatest of respect, do you honestly think buyers take any notice of a TRS badge ?

I don't give free postage or played eBay's games and I've been a TRS since the day it started, and have never lost it. Not that I care a monkeys about it. I have just continued to give my customers the excellent service I always have, and treat them the way I myself would like to be treated.

TRS means nothing, it is just another weasal way by eBay to suck you in to their programe.

You might be top Rated, but you don't qualify for the badge currently, or are certainly not showing it.

There is a difference and there is an extra 10% discount on the fees if you have it.

So regardless of whether customers are bothered by it (which I happen to believe they are), it's worth having anyway.

The badge does actually mean something.  It means that as a seller, you are adhering to a certain level of service, which customers do actually care about.  Otherwise there wouldn't be anything like feedback etc.

Do you have same day dispatch turned on?

For the TRS badge from memory as @padanpcparts  says its same day or dispatch within 1 working day.

You also need to have regardless of item tracking available as an option so for example you could have a £2.99 item for sale offered as standard at 1st or 2nd class postage but you must also have a tracked service available eg special delivery on the item, as well as 30 day returns policy.

This may help but I am sure you have probably read this already.

"You might be top Rated, but you don't qualify for the badge currently, or are certainly not showing it."

Like I said, I really don't care in any way at all if I get a TRS badge showing or not, it is totally meaningless.

It does however say in my Feedback I am a Top Rated Seller.

The Top Rated Seller badge is just another way of sucking you into ebay's programme, whereby you submit your business to them with things like Free Postage - whereas postage is NEVER free.

You do realise by adding the postage onto your sale price, eBay takes a bigger FVF off you.

That's what sellers soon realised when eBay were plugging it, so they never went for free postage.

Of course this was just another money making scam by eBay to generate more cash, and to confirm this beyond any doubt when few sellers actually took this up free postage option, what did eBay do to counter them so they still got that extra revenue - they made those still charging postage pay a 10% fee on it.

eBay are sharks and it is things like this that totally eroded any respect I once had for the company.

Your missing the point.  You might be able to dig in to find that you are a Top rated seller, but it's not immediately apparent on listings.

Whereas if you follow the requirements for the badge, it is!

As regards getting this:  "You do realise by adding the postage onto your sale price, eBay takes a bigger FVF off you."

I suggest that you look at the below, which is an extract from the fee structure.
You DO NOT pay less in fees by charging postage separately and that has not been the case for quite a few years now!

"You pay one final value fee for items you sell on eBay, and you don't have to worry about third party payment processing fees.

The final value fee is calculated as a variable percentage of the total amount of the sale (which includes the item price, postage, and any applicable taxes), plus a fixed charge of 30p per order."

No, of course postage is never free, but buyers do like "free" postage as has been proved categorically by Prime and the like.

Personally, I hate the postage charge being added on top of whatever it is that I thought I was paying.....

As to it being a money making scam, I really don't know how you work that one out.

You actually get a discount by getting the badge.  So how that equates to paying Ebay more, I will never understand.  Please explain.

I would suggest that you do as other have said and change your dispatch time to same day.

You can have an early cutoff time, so it's not really an issue.

I've just had a look at your listings and I know that they say express delivery within 2 days and less than £10.

But going straight from 2nd class, to Special delivery at £9.99 is kind of pushing the boundaries.

Why don't you have 2nd/1st (with a small extra charge and then SD)?

It does take time for things to kick in, so if you have very recently changed your listings to reflect the extra requirements, then it may take a little while.

But more often than not, it's simply that you have missed something and it's not quite meeting the actual requirements.  You need to review them again.

Just out of interest, is there any advantage to being "top rated" these days? Or do you have to qualify for premium to actually get any benefit?

For reference as I just found this.

Royal Mail 2nd Class and Royal Mail 1st Class

You can send items via the Royal Mail and offer eBay Premium Service. If you are currently listing with Royal Mail 2nd Class (2 to 3 working days) or Royal Mail 1st Class (1 to 2 working days) then you must amend your listing to ensure you still qualify for eBay Premium Service.

So, you either choose to use 1st class, or amend your handling time to same day.  That should sort it.

Your (sic) missing the point.

No I'm not at all, how many times do I have to tell you, I really don't care !

Free postage was a great extra money making scam by ebay, and I'm really surprised nobody has actually challenged them in court the way they introduced this, as when (most) people didn't take up the free postage option they then rolled out a 10% charge for those who didn't, so they still got that extra expected revenue.

Their official reason for it - to stop (chinese) sellers selling for £1 and charging £20 postage, thus cutting ebay's FVF

And of course they couldn't police this themselves !

But before they did all this and brought in the sucker TRS badge, along with a big mark up in fees, you used to be able to get 40% off your fees and a whole load of other perks. That all disappeared.

What do they give you now for jumping over 1000 hoops and sacrificing your business to eBay ?

A 5% discount ?

You are new on here, I've been here for over 20 years so I have seen an awful lot of changes and know exactly where eBay have screwed up, usually through their arrogance or to scam sellers for more in fees. You'd also be surprised at how the platform has gone totally down hill from what it was 10-15 years ago.

I've been TRS since it was introduced and have never lost it, but because I don't offer free postage or play eBay's silly money making games, they punish me and don't show it on my listings.

Even though I am the sort of seller eBay wants and needs on the platform.

No, I'm not new on Ebay.  I've been on and off Ebay pretty much since it started.

This particular account isn't that old, but that doesn't mean a thing.

I'm not missing the point at all.  Your making statements that are patently untrue, whether or not changes were made years ago, are irrelevant to today.  That is what I am picking you up on, not ancient history!

No, I'm not jumping through over 1000 hoops and sacrificing my business to Ebay, and if you really think I am, you are on another planet!  Ebay is just a part of the whole.

And again, it's not a 5% discount!  You obviously have not read any of the several times I have now corrected you.  Its 10% discount!

I think @therenewalworkshopltd  has answered this higher up, but just to confirm as I had exactly the same problem a few weeks back and asked how to fix it in the weekly chat.
However, it didn’t resolve itself until I offered same day dispatch.

Basically, if you offer 2nd class RM (or RM48) as your free post option then you also have to offer same day dispatch (I had next day).

If you have 1st Class as your free option (or RM24) then you can offer next day dispatch and still qualify.

Once you’ve corrected your listings it takes around 24 hours to show listing eligibility for TRS discount on your seller profile. At the same time the TRS badge will appear on your listings.

Don’t forget you also have to offer 30 day returns and keep your SD cost below £10.

Then all should be fine……?

I’m having a nightmare of a time with eBay and the premium status.

On some of my listings it’s showing as free 1-2 day and others free 2-3 day, even tho they both are the same service 2nd class. And in some cases it’s showing second class to arrive before guaranteed next day?!

I rang eBay to chat about this who were very ignorant, I was hung up on 3 times before I hung up on the last agent who told me I was wrong and that I wasn’t eligible because I didn’t offer free returns?!
