Getting my kids at work into collecting!

As some of you may know, I'm a primary school teacher. We have been letter writing in school, and as a final activity, each child got to pick a celebrity to write to. We researched addresses for them to send to, and on Friday, I went to the post office to get 66 stamps (we included a return envelope in case any of them get a reply!) I took some of my signed items in and modelled a letter on the board to Derren Brown (which I have sent off). I did warn them that some of them might not get a reply, but the kids were absolutely buzzing and some have asked if we can do an autograph club! Also, a couple of lads said they were going to watch Grimsby Town play at the weekend and said they were going to get their autographs! Will keep you posted about our successes.

I think that is truly brilliant - a wonderful idea.

I look forward to hearing how they all get on, and hopefully they wil have a lot of fun writing letters, and discover it is not a chore.

My own handwriting is terrible, so it helps me work on my handwriting. Also, writing letters about something fun and enjoyable is a great way to encourage kids to learn about words, and letter structure.

Nice one - if you contact your local Royal Mail - Mail Centre there should be someone who can loan you a copy of Lenny the Letter DVD it's a film showing the kids how the mail is sorted, from the street box to being delivered to there house letterbox.
